In continuing my quest for ghost information and such, I started reading “The Everything Ghost Book.” The book discusses different types of psychics, channelers, past life regression, and other means of communicating with spirits.
One such means is the ouija board. Some refer to them as talking boards. Over the years, I have only been near any ouija board once. In my early teens, a friend had one that I refused to touch. Of course, Diane probably thought I was bonkers for not wanting to play with her toy. However, I was the neighborhood weird kid. You know, the one that read horror and metaphysical stuff? The one that lit candles and incense because it took me to a quiet place to think.
The ouija is something that I will not allow in my house. Despite the books on various forms of magic and mysticism, that tool of communication with the spirit world is not to be brought into the house. I remember a discussion on the subject with Liz when she was going through her phase of exploring various religions and reading on the occult. At first, she was amused by the idea that someone that had reading material on Celtic Magick, Feminine Shamanism and other related subjects was flatly refusing to allow her to delve into the same subjects. It lead to a long discussion. She was offered the use of my small collection to read with the stipulation that she was not to attempt working any spells that would do harm. She stuck to burning candles and her own brand of prayers to help improve herself.
As for the ouija discussion itself; I spent quite a while explaining that regardless of what the rest of the world thought I felt that the ouija board is a means of channeling spirits. Opening doors that you do not know how to close is never wise. It was one of the few times we have managed to talk to each other and not scream at each other. It felt good.
