Shottie went to the groomers. It was interesting to hear how well the dog, that a groomer working for a vet couldn't handle, behaved for them. Dean said he fussed when he tried to clip his nail. Hell, the back ones aren't the ones Shottie pats me with, so that's ok. He grinds those outside for the most part. He also said that Shottie would let him put the muzzle on.
Sadly, Dean informed me that he and his wife were closing up shop at the end of the year. His wife was injured when a dog got a claw under her glasses. He said she's losing depth perception. I can understand why they need to close, it's sad for a lot of reasons. They run what I've learned is the best grooming shop/dog spa in town. Granted, I don't live in a big city, but people that get along with dogs like they do are hard to find.
Find a new groomer is going to be a chore and a minor inconvenience, but the reason they decided to close up makes me sad. What's that saying, bad things happen to good people? I know... it's an accident, could have happened to anyone, not the point.
A few things I have learned:
If a groomer DOESN'T say yes you can stay on site while you dog is being worked on, don't leave your dog.
A patient bather or groomer is understands that dogs, just like people, have their quirks.
Any groomer that doesn't let me walk the dog back to the cage where he will be waiting his turn ... is not a groomer I want to leave my dog with.
Anyone that tells you that your dog needs to be sedated to be groomed shouldn't be grooming dogs.
Had that experience a couple of years ago. Seems that I was not the only one they told that. Seriously... WTF, risking a dog's life to anesthesia just to make more money for the vet clinic? Greed.. just plain greed. Makes me glad I go to the other vet clinic in town. Started out there when Doc Kunkle was still practicing. He retired young because of his hips. He had them replaced and often joked that he had hip displysia. Dr. Kruse is very good, too. I don't like a lot of change, so... it took a while to get used to him.
