Hunting for treasures (backdated)

The word treasure evokes different images to different people.

To me, it brings forth images of:

Books, often dusty old ones.

Books... they have been my friends since early childhood. They have fostered my love of literature and history. They are one of the few things that my father never said no to. My Dad dropped out of high school for reasons I don't know, but he always has believed in learning. When we would go to the grocery story, he would say no to candy and toys, but he would say yes to books and stories on records. Some parents had forbidden their children to be reading comic books. Dad's attitude was... it's not the great works of literature, but it is reading and that increases interest for other material.

My interests are varied and many, but it's books and haunting libraries over the years. Through books, it's possible to travel to times and places we ordinarily would not. It's possible .. to learn anything in books. Book learning, while no substitute for practical applications of the skills being written about, can enhance the experience of a hands on project.

Miniatures and dolls.
I have always enjoyed collecting things tiny. One of my favorite pieces is a miniature tarot card; the cards are in scale for a Barbie doll and oversized for the standard 1/12 scale (1 inch to the foot) that most miniaturists deal with.

My sewing and craft skills tend to be on small scale. I bless the day I found my magnifying light. It helps me produce small scale cross-stitch and jewelry projects. I've since had to set up a new stand of sorts. The plastic joint holding the light and glass onto the metal extending arm snapped. I refused to buy another one. I gave my husband the stand for a similarly set up lamp for his painting desk.

Family photos and heirlooms.
Pictures, the saying goes, are worth a thousand words. I have photos lurking that a close to 100 years old.
Heirlooms are just about anything handed down. They range from handmade afghans and doilies to dishes and jewelry; it's the sentimentality attached to the thing that makes something an heirloom.

Travel memorabilia.
I have a collection of post cards, brochures, and other travel booklets from places all over the world.
