My Weekend

This weekend was good. The weekend started for me on Friday when I headed over to my mums after work to collect my new car :)

I now have a lovely Mazda 323 to drive around in, and after 18 months, my mum finally has her car back. I feel so guilty for using her car for so long - I did offer to give it back many times but she spoils me waaaay too much and so she wouldn't! My mum and Keith have paid for this car for me, since we have no cash at the moment due to moving, but I think at some point in the not too distant future I'll have to start paying them back on a weekly basis. Its a fairly old car, 1994, but its in pretty good shape and has done below average mileage. I love my mummy and Keith very much, they always do way too much for me!

On Saturday we headed out to get some stuff we needed and also popped into MFI to look at kitchens as we were hoping to get a fitted kitchen very soon as the current one is a complete mess. We were thinking of paying for only the bottom half of the kitchen and getting the top half at a later date, but in the end we went for the whole kitchen. We are going to be very skint for a while though as we are about £1,000 short which means lots of overtime for me and saving every penny. So the rest of the house is going to have to wait until we have paid off the kitchen which means we will be living in an ugly house (except for the kitchen) for a while yet :(

Later on we found a letter posted through our door from one of the neighbours inviting us over on Sunday evening as a little welcome to the street, which was very nice indeed!

Saturday evening at the last minute we headed over to the Tobacco Factory for a quick drink with Andy and Paul. It was nice to get out the house for an hour, and I really enjoyed my pistachios ;P

Sunday was spent out shopping some more in the morning as we needed several other things like curtain rails and net curtains etc. We got given some curtains from my Gran that came from Ikea but they didn't have the right sort of tops for the curtain rail we bought for the living room, so we also needed to go and buy some stuff so I could amend these curtains. So we spent the day shopping and in the afternoon I was upstairs sewing the net curtains and starting on the curtains for the living room. I'm not sure that I like the net curtains we chose - but we had great difficulty finding any we both liked. The only nets we found that we both really liked worked out at £117 to get that one front window done and we really couldn't afford that just for a teeny bit of netting, so in the end we went for one of the cheapest that we could find! I can't believe how expensive these things are! Tonite my job for the evening is to finish the curtains for the living room!

Sunday evening we headed over to visit the neighbours. I was extremely nervous, but it turned out that they are lovely. We met Mika, her two lodgers and Sharon. They live next door and next door but one. They are around our age and we all got on really well indeed. (I'm sure I've seen Mika's lodgers out clubbing (at TOF) many time before - you know when you are pretty sure you recognise someone but can't quite be certain?) We certainly found out a few things about the people who lived here before us. Apparently they had done the kitchen up fairly recently and when we said that it was all broken and rubbish, and mentioned it was white Sharon said she knew it was a wooden kitchen. So basically, before we looked round the house he must have taken out the new kitchen and replaced it with an old broken thing that we now have (as this was the kitchen we saw when we came looked round). They have confirmed that the doors were all paneled and they were really appalled to hear of what they had taken and done to the place. Sharon said we should definitely go to the small claims courts and try and get some compensation (she happens to be a solicitor!). For some reason, they have also taken the wheelie bin, as we have one of those half sized bins, which was definitely a full sized one when they were living there! Why on earth would someone take the wheelie bin? I get the feeling the people we bought the house from were VERY strange indeed. Anyway, we had a lovely evening indeed.

All in all a lovely but busy weekend :)
