Middle

You were there when your Father said
Let there be light
You obeyed when He whispered
Son, You have to leave tonight
To spend nine months in a mothers womb
Three days in a borrowed tomb

But it’s the time in between
The middle of two thieves
That says everything
It’s the reason I believe
I'm amazed, so amazed
And I thank you for the time in between

As Easter has passed us by once again, I have been reflecting on how small of deal this yearly celebration of a celestial wonder usually is for me. For Christmas, I always love to make snowflakes, decorate a Christmas tree, shop for some presents, and dress in red, white and green. On a more spiritual note, I also love getting involved in the Christmas by visiting the elderly home with my church, using my various talents to put on a good show, and taking time to really think about other people and evaluate my life when purchasing or making presents.

And as wonderful as the birth of Christ is, why is it that I have never been taught to celebrate his death and rebirth in such grand notes? Do I realize that, just like Jesus is 100% Man and 100% God in a way I could never comprehend, he died while on that cross with a full 100%? His resurrection does not make his death and lighter or less serious. The miracle of his rising would not be complete without an understanding of what a defeat his death seemed to be.

And even when I do take both Christmas and Easter very seriously, what do I do the rest of the year between these holidays to honor his time in between the two? The crux of our gospel rests on the six hours leading up to his death and the Sunday after marking his first return, but his mission is proliferated throughout his life after his earthly birth and before his return to his throne above. Hopefully this time next year when I come to reflect with the rest of the church on his gift of love, I will be able to already bring something more before him, to let him know that I have taken that which he has entrusted to me and used it to bring him even more glory.
