Notes: Wow, it's been a while. I feel kinda weird writing drabbles for a show I haven't watched in over two years but oh, well. I'm just glad I'm writing anything at all.
He didn't know what had awakened him, but Castiel jerked upright with a gasp. Sweat beaded his brow. His heart - his human heart - raced; each beat a grain of sand slipping from the hourglass of his life.
"Cas?" Dean's voice was soft in the dim light of dawn. A coffee mug steamed on the table beside him.
Dean's expression said that he knew what the former angel was feeling. And that he understood.
"How do you do it?" Cas made a helpless all-encompassing gesture.
"One day at a time," Dean replied softly, "just one day at a time."
