Whewwww! What a week! Where to begin? Monday, I guess?
Monday we came back to school. It was such a pain to start taking notes again, but that's always the way it is when you come back after a long vacation. It was also the first day of tech week, and it was a really good rehearsal considering it was the first day back after two weeks and we were rehearsing in this room where rehearsals always manage to go bad. We all go home feeling pretty accomplished and satisfied.
Next day...
We find out there's a rally for Israel scheduled on the day of the show.
Feck.
We have meetings all day long to decide what day will be okay for everyone involved--not just the players but the people who are doing our sound and lighting. We decide on the day after, Tuesday, and are given the task after rehearsal to tell everyone we know that the date has been changed and find out if they can still come. Rehearsal is good in spite of the awful stress of the day.
Wednesday we spent all day putting up the set. The school put on the stage extension and set up a platform that's going to be Anne's room, so we were able to set up everything. We also finished painting the bookcase, and the entire thing looks fabulous. Later, we have a costume parade. We add the nightmare scene, and it's pretty rocky, but it's only the first time so no one's worried. This was supposed to be the rehearsal where Jon points out all the faulty details, but he only had maybe five notes, which boosted everyones' confidence a ton.
Thursday, we have two crises.
First, the lighting.
Alex wants to set up the lighting on Sunday and leave it up until Tuesday. Jon freaks because he's afraid that whoever is going to be *in* school on Monday (since not everyone is going to the rally) will destroy the lighting equipment that costs $1200 to replace. Mrs. Myers finally says she will lock the gym so the lighting will be fine.
Next, the amount of performances.
Because of the rescheduling, people have conflicts and are bombarding the school with complaints. We now have to do three performances at 10:45, 1:45, and 8:00. I comment that we're like the circus and a lot of teachers are asking if we'll be able to pull it off. As long as we have a period to wind down from the emotional high and have some tea, we should be fine. Jon's mother and some crew members come and watch the night's rehearsal. Jon has barely any notes, the nightmare scene is incredible, and Jon's mother cries three times. It was great, but Jon wants to make sure we don't get too cavalier about the whole thing and tells us that on Sunday, it's going to be a really rough rehearsal because of the lighting. We're going to be rehearsing from 1-7, which is nuts, but it's our final rehearsal before the show goes up on Tuesday.
THE SHOW GOES UP ON TUESDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And it's going to be amazing.
