Welcome To June.
Ali, Julia (my college roomate) and I all went to Portland Pride this weekend. ANd let me just say, IT WAS FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!! I have NEVER never NEVER seen so many gay people. We went to to the Dyke March (just to see what it was) and ended up marching in it (it was just a horde of women walking through the middle of downtown PDX) but wow. Lesbians as far as the eye can see???? WHAT??? It was wierd. and very very cool. As we were marching (occassionally chanting things) I realized that while a gay pride parade theoretically seems a bit unnecessary and ridiculous, can you imagine freaking out about maybe being queer and feeling really horrible and Different and then all of a sudden seeing a huge crowd stretching for BLOCKs, of lesbians with their friends and lovers screaming about how there was nothing wrong with them? I felt like i was part of something, and for the first time not like I was a total poser. It was very cool.
