I'm on a roll

"Zoe. I think I'm freaking out," I stuttered as we started unloading our instruments out of the van at the Showbox.

"We'll be fine!" she reassured me, for like the twentith time that day. "Seriously! You need to stop freaking out. Honestly. It's not only driving the band crazy but it's driving you crazy too."

I took my guitar and walked inside the venue through the back. I had been to the Showbox to see many concerts before, but the back was totally different, with all the equipment and random couches. My amp was already in there, so I just set my guitar down and ran over to to my room in the back. In there was a BIG mirror and a vanity so I could set down all my stuff. Naturally, I'd have to share with the rest of the band, but I decided to get started early before Mr. Henry (aka mirror hog) came in. I plugged in the hair straightener and set out my makeup. Zoe had promised to do my makeup for me, so I was happy I had one less stress off my back.

I started to straighten my hair, taking one piece at a time, when Henry walked in. "So you got started early, I see?"

"Well, knowing you," I replied, "I need to start early. I don't want to have to do my hair from a compact mirror again."

He snorted and sat behind me in the same chair, (which, by the way, would have looked VERY suggestive if he wasn't gay) and began to brush his hair. "So, your nervous, eh?"

I sighed. "Don't freaking remind me!"

"No stress. I won't let you!"

"I wish it was that easy," I replied and continued straightening my hair.

Zoe walked in, and immediately showed a confused face. "What the..."

Henry laughed and got up. "Jeez, Donny, you're such a player!"

I set the hair straightener down. "Why is everyone saying that today?! God!" Henry picked up the hair straightener and pushed me to the smallest corner of the mirror, giving me a wink and a scrunch of his nose.

"You ready for makeup?" Zoe asked me. I nodded, and she got out her supplies, giving me a complete makeover.

"Can you guys scoot over, your blocking my mirror use," Henry asked as he finished straightening his hair and begun his makeup.

We both rolled our eyes and Zoe continued her makeup on me. "So I bet you Jonah's already here, eh?"

I thought back to Jonah. "I hope so. I know he wouldn't miss this concert for the world."

"We'll make you look pretty," Zoe said as she continued on my makeup. And as she did so, I wondered, who was going to be at that concert tonight? We'll sure as hell find out.

The people in the crowd were getting rowdy as we waited backstage. There was a technical problem that needed to be fixed before we went on, but the anticipation was killing me.

The band stood in a circle as we said our made up band prayer. "Dear lord of music. Please grace us with the ability to play music good tonight as we impress the mystery band we all seem to love. We need to play our best, so we have provided a cookie sacrifice." Jimmy broke the cookie in half. "Please let us do good. Oh and sorry about the thing that I did with the amp. I was a little drunk that night. Amen."

And we went up onstage.

We opened the show with our smashing song "Modern Day Lullabye," and blew the crowd away... in a good way. After playing 8 of our songs, we stopped the show and went off stage. As the crowd yelled ENCORE we came back out and I grabbed the mic and smiled. "Alright! We got a damn good vibe going on in here, HAH?! HAH!??! Yeah! I thought so! Well, this next song isn't really a song at all!" I took the mic off the stand and walked closer to the audience. "You know when you go to the movies and see that Cingular promo with Forest Whitekar? The whole silence can change the world thing? YEAH!? Alright! Well, this next song we have devoted to the man himself. Now how many of you think this entire venue can stay silent for 30 seconds?!" The crowd went wild. "Nah... I don't think that's long enough..... how about 1 FULL MINUTE!?!" The crowd screamed. "BUDDY LET'S GET A TIMER OUT HERE!!!!" The stage manager handed me a small watch and I set it for one minute. "In 1 minute this timer will go off, and the entire venue will have been silent, YA HERE?!" The crowd screamed as I yelled, "3, 2, 1 SILENCE!"

It was amazing. No one thought it could happen but it did. There was no noise whatsoever, and it was beautiful. As Jimmy watched the timer I looked into the audience for Jonah and saw him standing towards the back. I blew a kiss at him and he smiled, giving me the "I love you" sign. I owe him a kiss, I thought as the timer went down to 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1! The entire crowd went wild with joy. "THAT WAS PRETTY TRUCKING AWESOME!!!" I yelled as Jimmy and I opened the chords to Enjoy The Silence by Depeche Mode.

As the song came to an end, I played the note, held it, and went straight into Map of the Problematique, as we had planned. "This is our last song, and we thank you alllLLL!" I yelled as we played the song.

We got off stage, as the crowd yelled for another encore. But the lights went up and the people gradually left.

"HOLY SHITAKE MUSHROOMS! THAT WAS AWESOME!!" I yelled as we jumped in a little group. "We totally aced that performance!!!"

"I wonder what band was there!" Freddy yelled, the first time he spoke to me all day since this morning.

"WHO FREAKING CARES?!?!?! WE'RE GOING ON TOUR!!!!"

We all jumped with glee, when a happy Jonah came into the room with a bunch of flowers. I ran over to him and kissed him. When we broke off he laughed. "Glad to see you too, sweets!"

"Whoa. That was WAY too much to look at!" Zoe replied, turning away.

"WE TOTALLY ROCKED!" I yelled as Jonah picked me up in a hug.

"I KNOW!" he yelled back and set me back down. "So, like, there was apparently supposed to be a band there, but I couldn't recognize anyone. I did see Lynn though. She said hi."

I kissed him again and grabbed my guitar. "I guess we should go, eh Jonah?"

He smiled and nodded, taking my other hand.

"We'll see you tomorrow, Donny!" replied Zoe as she packed up her bass.

Jonah stood outside my apartment door again as we stared each other down. "I love you, Donny," he finally said as he kissed my cheek.

"I love you too, Jonah. I'm so glad you came!"

He smiled and unlocked my door for me. But I couldn't go in yet, I wanted to say something, do something... anything...

We kissed again, just like the night before, and before long we were on my bed again, kissing. He stopped and looked at me playfully. "How are you feeling tonight, Donny?"

I cocked my head to the side and replied, "You know, Jonah, I think tonight would be a good night to take up your offer."

And with that, we were in my bed, soon to wake up tired and warm from the hot hot night.

Boy, wait until the band finds out about this one.
