A day like past adventures

You know the main part i liked about travelling was the ability to interract with people. They always treated you differently, but in a curious way. You could get alot more out of people because they are more comfortable revealing more about themselves. I guess it's just the fact that they feel like they'll never see you again. But it affects me too. I feel like i can ask anything, or approach people in a different way. And that's how i went about my day yesterday.

Speakeasy has Closed
So me and the Wolf went to Queen Street to go bar hopping, but after learning he'd never been to Lance Brass' bar that's where we were headed. He was excited because that Lance really liked the Wolf and up until New Years Eve this year we had all lost touch with Lance. But alas we got there and it wasn't there anymore, it was a Spring Rolls chain. Very sad. But that's when the traveller in me kicked in. I went to the girl smoking outside and asked her about the Speakeasy. She told us it had closed and invited us to the bar next door McVeigh's for a beer and promised us a good time. She was a nice bartender and took care of us. There was also a waitress right out of Ireland who was really nice, and even though i was so very sad the girls there and the Wolf and the Irish Band made it feel like home.

Darfur Protest at Queen's Park
Hangover in the morning, but hey let's go find Jess Gilbert at a protest and then find adventure downtown waiting for my friends movie premier at night. Got to the protest and hey it was full of jews. Teenage jews. Seems that the jewish highschools mainly organized it. I went around trying to find a short beaded skirted brown haired girl in a sea of jewish teenagers. The needle was never found in the haystack, but luckily some old friends were, including the illustrious Piscott. But as it is in my travellerhood i liked playing games and the game yesterday was find the one short beaded skirted brown haired girl that i knew. So i separated from the people i had seen along the way and went through the crowd, finding many short beaded skirted brown haired people. Then after the protest i parked myself on the statue between the protest and the subway, to possibly find my friend and to sit in the shade (always important to find a good lean). That's when campers from years past came and found me. I looked like my travellling self, sleeping on that statue in the shade, and they remembered that Tito persona, so i kept up the hitchhiker persona. My my they were so old, they were highschoolers, and some were even counsellors of their own. very cool indeed that the Tito i once was really did have an impact in their lives.

The Devil and Daniel Johnston
I was amazed at how well the protest was organized. Supposedly 4 students were sitting in a coffee shop 4 months earlier, and yesterday there were so many people, and so many speakers. Including my man Jack Layton, who i've seen at other functions like the JHR charity function (Journalists for Human Rights) last month, and Olivia Chow who i've seenand heard much more, but never have i heard him speak live. It was very inspiring for all those students present that you can organize an event like that and spread awareness like that in 4 months. wow.
Afterwards after seeing old campers, old friends, a piscott, and a sea of short, beaded, skirted, brown haired people it was about 3;30 and i only had Brad's premier movie at 7. So i decided to scope out any cool urban scenes in the area hoping to work at the Hydro Building very shortly. Not finding any i did my usual 'lost traveller' approach where i ask people on the street for their opinions of local places to go. Always get an array of spots and opinions and secret spots that only locals know. I was pointed towards Yonge and when i got there i realized i was very close to the Carleton theatre and independent one downtown that might have some of the HOTDOCS festival. Got there, found the movie that started next which happened to be about Daniel Johnston and sat for 2 hours watching this musical genius and mentally unstable person who made music while he was having a mental breakdown. Very interesting person and very interesting movie. I recommend it to all who are interested in the musical transformation of the late 80s and musical genius and some major highs and lows of a manic depressioned person.

The Chauffeur
So as i have found out lately, i'm a major worrier when it comes to being late. I had to make sure i was on time to Brad's opening, which ended up coming an hour early to the place. When i entered the door to Ryerson building it was held in, there was a strange buzzing noise, i looked around to find the source of it, and there it was on the wall and orange light that kept flickering that read TROUBLE, TROUBLE, TROUBLE. then i noticed security guards coming towards me. hmmm. ya i bolted and came back an hour later when the event was gonna take place. scary.

met some good people last night. I also did my usual thing when i'm nervous in a group of new people i dont know. i took out the 3 card monty cards and taught them how to do it a little. Always reminiscient of the Victoria Harbor 3 years ago entertaining 40 kids and making $2.75 and about 400 jelly beans the kids and parents gave me afterwards.

You know it's very important to me to keep that image around, those hitchhiker days were the best and sometimes worst in my life. I really liked who i was when i was travelling, though there was a bit of loneliness in those trips, there was also just such a connection that people offered so freely. As i found last night with Brad's friends, of course they started out being film makers and film fans and interesting people to begin with that always helps. LOL oh my i just remembered a story in Cape Breton, one of my first hitchhiking experiences, i got picked up by 4 USA college hockey players. they played Dave Matthews and Great Big Sea the whole ride, they went and stood on the beach with a beautiful view for 10 minutes and felt they took in all the beauty of Cape Breton, they even let me stay in their fancy shmancy 5 star golf resort hotel for the night. oh my these guys were great, they started off as typical college jocks talking about women, and sports, but by the end of my stay with them they became so spiritual and talked about what they wanted out of life and the meanings of it all. WOW i totally forgot about that story till just now. i guess i just want if not to travel to keep that personality going and get to affect so many so positively...
