Well if this isn’t one for the books then I don’t know what is. . .
Mom’s home from the hospital today. :) Although the tumor was even BIGGER than a grapefruit (and it was on her right ovary, not her stomach) the procedure went smoothly. The doctor said when they opened her up, everything looked good. They removed the tumor easily and inspected other areas, all of which looked normal. However, the doctors ended up doing a complete hysterectomy (they took out both ovaries and her uterus) just in case the tumor was cancer and it had spread. That all happened on Monday. Today we got the results back. . .
While that massive tumor residing on her right ovary was completely harmless-the left ovary (the “healthy” one) was cancerous. It had a tiny spot of cancer on that could never have been detected and would have eventually spread throughout her body. The doctors were shocked. They never had even thought to be concerned about that ovary.
“Someone was watching over you on that operating table.” Her doctor literally said. “We normally wouldn’t do a hysterectomy in cases like these. But I believe this one saved your life. If we hadn’t gotten that ovary out when we did, you’d be back here in 4 years with advanced ovarian cancer.”
So thank you everyone. I truly believe the power of prayer played a huge part in this whole ordeal. Thank you to everyone who prayed, who hugged me in the hallway, who asked about her, who stroked my hair when I was crying and who loved my mom and me so much. I’ll never forget it.
Keep faith everyone.
