There are no words for what you have done. None. Attacking non combatants is a violation of every and all moral, decency and common courtesy. And don't you dare argue that because they are ninja they were fair targets. They stayed out of the fight to act as healers, you should not have attacked them.

There is no such thing as a safety on a battle-field, Yondaime.

They weren't on the battlefeild. They were far elsewhere.

How large an area do you consider a battlefield?

The appointed place of battle. At least that is what was agreed on beforehand.

Though I see your point. I should have known better.

Counting on an enemies sense of fair play is always a mistake. Especially when they have proven to be less than merciful.

This isn't just unnecessary cruelty in a battle, this is a violation of everything. I wouldn't have thought them so eagerly capable of this act.

Did you assume there was honor involved? A nonsense concept. Honor was created to even the odds for the weaker party.

I assumed they would stick to the fighters.

Actually, one of the best ways to demoralize an enemy is to attack soft targets.

Some of us think that's wrong.

Then you lack a realistic viewpoint on the matter. In war, you cannot have mercy for men, women, or children.

If you don't have mercy, you will only win a fight, never a war.

That sounds completely ridiculous. The problem is that some people act in half-measures. Take your village system, for instance. The problem is that you don't crush your enemies completely. You are content for skirmishes and minor civil wars that solve nothing. By killing every last member of a village, you stop them from rising up ever again. Being merciful only lets them grow stronger to attack again.

Some of our allies were former enemies we showed mercy to.

Which means their abilities belong to them alone. They could just as soon switch once more one day. Back to being enemies.

Why put such powers at the whim of circumstance when you could simply dispatch them and rip their secrets from the corpses?

It's hard to explain a sense of right and wrong to one who either doesn't have it or chooses to ignore it.
