Ok. I have told this to a few of you already, but I cannot get over how cool this is (to me), so I'm going to share it with everyone! It's a little dorky, but I'm fascinated by American History. If you are in any way opposed to learning something neat, stop reading...now.

When the Stamp Act was first passed by British Parliament, the first colonial assembly to protest was the Virginia House of Burgesses. They convened and decided to pass a series of Resolves in protest of the act. This is where Patrick Henry made his famous "Liberty or Death" speech. It is commonly believed that Henry inspired the House of Burgesses to pass a series of defiant resolutions that then spurred the city of Boston into action, which led to the other colonies defying the act as well and eventually the American Revolution.

However:

In reality, Henry had only been a member of the House of Burgesses for a little more than a week and had a fairly small following. The House of Burgesses only passed a few very conservative resolves that did not really protest anything at all. Henry, though, sent a letter to a friend in Newport, Rhode Island who happened to be editor of a fairly well read newspaper. In this letter, Henry sent a copy of all the resolutions discussed, ranging from the most conservative to the very radical and defiant, intimating that the House had passed all of the Resolves and was very upset over the Stamp Act. Henry's friend sent a copy of this letter to the editor of the Boston Gazette, who published the Resolves in the paper along with a story suggesting the same ideas as Henry's letter, that the House of Burgesses had passed the more radical and defiant of the resolutions. This caused a great stir in the Boston community and led to the famous and well-known revolutionary actions of Boston and to similar actions being adopted by colonies across North America. All this, of course, eventually led to the Revolution and the creation of the nation of America.

Conclusion: The American Revolution occurred because of a blatant lie of Patrick Henry's.

Isn't that neat?

Ok, enough teaching for today. I just wanted to share something I found fascinating.

Have a great life, I love you all!
