So today just after my training session, the guy in charge of the whole shindig takes me into his office to tell me essentially how bad I sucked. I felt like I had been called to the Principal's office. Powerpoint is all they need; forget this product demo stuff. They don't need it, and you just basically wasted their precious time. Maybe because its incongruent with how you see yourself. If you already think you're the shit and you have people telling you that most of the time, although they might be really nice people with really great comments, those messages might just mix into the way that you already perceive yourself. They are congruent with your own thoughts. Although you may truly appreciate the 20% that go out of their way, their messages may just automatically blend in with your mindset. They won't stand out as much as some dude telling you that you suck ... something that is incongruent with how you see yourself. If Jen's mind is blue, and she has all these other people adding colors of the same hue, it will be difficult for her to pick out one color from another if they're all blending together. But this dude just smacked a big ol' red dot in the mix ... thats gonna stir things up.

Or maybe, if you're driven to perfect yourself due to fear of failure, then this dude is only confirming that fear for you.

Or maybe I'm just talkin' outta my ass and trying to sound smart. Ya know, if you think that I'm analyzing you and you don't like it or it weirds you out, then let me know. I'll stop talking to you like this.

I don't mind anyone talking out of their ass, trying to sound smart, and/or even being smart. I only mind judgmental fools.

While the inconguity theory makes total sense and certainly applies, let's also not forget that Jen's blue mind contains an ego and self-esteem that are very, very fragile. That, and those damned perfectionist tendencies. When I grow up, I'm gonna be ... unflappable.
