Last week I got back from another couple weeks in Chicago. This trip involved less furry con than the last one, but somehow even more time hanging out with quality people outside of work. Also, some first-time experiences:
- 2°F
- Sears Willis Tower
- lower Wacker
-
Billy Goat Tavern -
iCream -
Hot Chocolate Oh, and I think I got some work done at some point. Or something.
Only one more week at home, then I'm off again to Saitama prefecture for another three weeks of linguistic isolation. The one possible bright spot is a planned side trip to Nagano (!) for snowboarding with my Japanese colleague. This should be a real adventure for at least these reasons:
- It's been years since I've been snowboarding
- I am dubious that Japanese snowboarding helmets will fit a gaijin's head
- In Japan, things like "blue square" and "double black diamond" are probably written out as the Kanji for "tranquil lake" and "ox demon who devours people"
- I can't read Kanji (or any other Japanese script)
So we'll see!
Provided I survive, I fly back to San Francisco on the first day of FC. If all goes well, I'll be toting a bag full of
exotic KitKat into the Fairmont to share and/or barter for drinks and/or favors.
