drinking too much tea while studying

i want to write one of my final essays on the construction of gender identity within a certain practice (as yet undecided) within a popular musical scene or genre. i have recently discovered through my housemate that there exists a gypsy music scene in melbourne. who thinks i should study the gypsy music scene for my essay?
but i don't know anything AT ALL about it. it seems cool but also frightening and overwhelming.
