So we had the appointment for 11am. We went in about 10:50, just to get out of the car. I would also rather be early than late.
When we first went in Nechama was curious as to where she was, eager to press elevator buttons. When I wrote out the check, I then had to find her an envelope and pen for her to write on.
My dad's girlfriend came in, she was resistant to hugging but was looking at her, while we talked.
A few minutes later a cardiology resident(I assume pediatric) came out to bring us into the exam room. She weighed her and attempted to measure her on a big traditional scale.
This woman was polite, but clearly either not used to being in a clinical position working with a child this young. She then wanted to do a blood pressure reading and the oxygen/finger reading. That's where Nechama began to melt.
Within about a minute, the doctor was in the room and was explaining to the resident with a child this young, YOU DON'T EVEN TRY, because THIS is what happens. They freak out, and are uncooperative in terms of examining them.(Not verbatim what the dr said but the idea)
Nechama still has a heart murmur and still has a small hole in her heart. We go back in a year.
While I didn't have additional questions. How she reacted, caused me to get flustered. I also had to hold her while they were looking at her heart on the u/s. It also significantly impacted my ability to communicate with the doctor, ie hearing him and I was really glad I had my dad's gf with me, because this way when he asked me who the pediatrician was, and I didn't immediately answer, I was restraining my own child she was able to answer for me.
