I greeted the new year in the usual way, with a fairly large hangover. New Year's Eve was spent at home with Cláudia and Filipe. We had sushi and sake because we forgot all the stores would close early, but thanks to my mum there was a bit of champagne, and also beer, thanks to the good people at the gas station. We stayed in listening to music for ( Read more... )

a doujinshi is a fan comic
but before you sign yourself away let me tell you the story of the comic (which will have several chapters at least)
star trek reboot/doom/deadspace/parasite eve

enterprise is pootling along, when it runs across a klingon ship chasing what it claims are pirates, the other ship denies this but isn't a registered merchant freighter (probably pirates) so kirk agrees to hold a trial and if they're guilty give them over to the klingons
the pirates leg it into the forbidden Aegis system, setting off all sorts of alarms, magnetic mines, etc - the klingons in fast pursuit and so the enterprise is forced to give chase, btu being much larger can't move as easily through the mine field.
this gives the klingons and pirates about a day's headstart!
at the center of the forbidden system they find a spacestation called The Sprawl which has been abandoned for about thirty years, kirk and a landing party beam aboard to investigate
upon hearing this bones goes plum loco, and beams down after them, after he saves the captain (everyone else is already dead) he reveals that this is kinda his fuck up, and tells him about mars and the ishimura and that due to genetic engineering he's damn near immortal, but the same tech that made him made the monsters on this place which is the reason it was considered forbidden - ie here be dragons - they will eat you - don't go there!
kirk tells the ship to beam them but radiation/ion storms/something stops them and he and bones/reaper are forced to find their way across the sprawl
there are story boards for the start of it in existence (the joy of my stick figures) but the idea is that reaper/bones slowly reveals his story (mountains of back story i have in place) as they pick their way through the sprawl and it's genetically modified mutant things!

so wanna play?

Sounds interesting, and part of me wants to jump at the chance of drawing some starships. Two things, though. Is it classic ST or the remake? I wasn't counting on watching the remake but if it is, I suppose I can also reference from screencaps. Also, it's going to depend on the deadlines - how soon you need it and how strict they are. January isn't the best month for me to be starting a new project, I need to salvage what I can from the last semester, and I'm not a quick sketcher, and I've never done a comic before. If none of that is a problem, I'd say yes, I'd love to play.

it's reboot but with a heavy sci fi horror noir twist
dead space is the major setting which is all broken, distorted, gore covered, with a healthy dose of doom (hell gore setting in spaaaaaaace!)
st/doom is common because the same actor played reaper and bones, and at the end of the doom movie he was made immortal by the same detail that made the monsters (it has some sort of waffle about genetic markers)
but the idea is that the federation has been trying for years to make it work and the whole dead space thing is one of their errors

there is NO deadline, it's meant to be fun, not forced, black and white noir with flashes of blue in the dead space style

Okay, that sounds very interesting, I'll bite. Plus, I can't pass on the opportunity of drawing Karl Urban, and I loved Doom. And if I have time to play around, this is just the kind of thing I needed.

i thought you would
if nothing else to do the whole "abandon hope ye all who enter here" art style

here are some doujinshi

the artist is like my total fave, don't get upset but it will give you an idea
some doujinshi are dire, little more than stick figures but these are very good ones
i apologise for the page, looking at the background feels like eyebleaching

Not a problem. Those look really good. It's not quite the thing I tend to do, I don't think I could do the manga look if I tried (but then again at the stage I'm at if they end up looking human at all we're in luck). Anyway, I hope I can do something that works for you, won't be for lack of trying. :)
