The Day of Days

Jun 06, 2004 22:09

Today is the 60th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Normandy, when soldiers of 3 Nations: The US, Britain, and Canada, stormed heavily defended beaches and dropped behind enemy lines in order to destroy the hand of evil gripping Europe that was Hitler's Nazi Germany. Many brave soldiers died on that day, 60 years ago, to preserve the freedoms we take for granted today. So take a moment to bow your heads in honor of their selfless sacrifice for freedom. I also take this time to reaffirm my wish to find myself among the ranks of these heroes, and to call myself a soldier of this great nation of ours, so that I may repay a debt I feel owed to this country for all that it has given me. So please, show your respect to every soldier past and present, in every branch of the service for their selfless decision to serve you, to shed their blood in defense of the freedoms you take for granted everyday.
