Searching for Aang

Nov 22, 2010 20:06

Katara stumbled blindly down the hall. She had had way too much to drink, and was feeling a little depressed and it was all Zuko's fault! Her mind swirled from the drink, and his words still echoed in her head. She wasn't sexy enough for Aang? That had never been a problem before, in fact, it was quite the opposite. Most of the time he couldn't ( Read more... )

"Roasted cow-chicken... where is it?" Aang mumbled to himself. He had a small bag of fire flakes tucked under his arm while he rummaged through the cabinets. The chef was out (probably sleeping), so he was at a loss as to where the meat might be hiding. If he didn't find any soon, he'd have to cook some. The thought of roasting meat did not sit well with him; he shuddered.

Maybe Azula would be happy with just the fire flakes.... Of course, then he would feel guilty for not letting her eat what she'd asked for.

He thought he'd heard footsteps outside, but after pausing for a moment and hearing nothing, he figured he was just imagining things. The young Avatar shrugged and continued his search.

Katara poked her head into the kitchen. Aang was searching, with a bag of fire flakes under his arm, for something. Pots had fallen out of the cabinets and on to the floor. She stifled a small giggle. He probably had no idea how much noise he was making. He stomach rumbled again and she walked up to him.

"Is there something I can help you find?" she asked, speech a little slurred, leaning against the center island.

Aang jumped. The bag of fire flakes fell to the ground. Turning, he let out a long sigh. "Oh, it's only you, Katara," he said. Then again, why would he be worried if anyone caught him in the kitchen, anyway? Maybe spending time with Azula was making him on edge.

"What are you up to?" With a grunt, he reached down to pick up his mess. He thought he could smell alcohol, but figured, well, he was in the kitchen.

"Looking for you," she slurred. "Whatcha dooin'?"

She was still leaning against the island even though she really wanted to run to him.

"I'm, um," he stumbled over his words for a moment. He wasn't quite sure how to say he was on a fetch quest for Azula, but.... "I'm getting some food for a, erm, prisoner."

Aang still hadn't noticed her, exactly. The way she was talking set off alarms in the back of his mind, but he was a little distracted by the lack of the roasted meat he'd been looking for. "Do you know where the chef keeps roasted cow-chicken?"

"Do you find me sexy?" she blurted out, losing her grip on the island.

Her hand went to her belt and she loosened it. Her wrap fell open revealing more than she had intended. Her free hand went to unbind herself. Only then was she aware that she was in the kitchen.

It was then that Aang turned around and really looked at her. She was drunk. Probably wasted.

The bag of fire flakes fell to the floor again; he quickly walked over to her and took her hands before she did something she might regret. After all, anyone could come into the kitchen at any moment.

"Katara?" He made sure to keep his voice calm, even though his girlfriend was exposing herself to him (not to mention the question she'd posed promptly before doing so). "Is everything okay? Do you want me to take you to your room...?"

She leaned in and gave him a sloppy kiss. She hadn't meant for it to be sloppy, but she was lucky she didn't miss his mouth entirely.

"I just...really need you right now," she said after they parted. She brought his hand to her breast and smiled weakly.

Aang froze for a second. He wasn't sure how to handle her. He'd never seen her like this before... and it worried him. With a groan, he moved his hand to her cheek instead.

"Do you want to talk about it later?" he asked. She was pushing herself on him, and he wasn't going to take advantage of her. She was too important to him for something like that. "Or even now? I'm all ears."

Katara's breath hitched in her throat when Aang moved his hand to her cheek and she fought back a sob.

"Zuko called me frumpy and said that the only reason you haven't slept with me yet is because you don't find sexy enough and I think he's right...."

She was babbling and tears ran unctrollably down her face. She cupped his face and gave him another sloppy kiss.

"Is he right? Am I too frumpy?"

Aang paused, blushing at the bluntness of it all. What had brought this on? On second thought, he knew part of what brought this on. The liquor probably wasn't helping the matter much.

He tried his hardest not to wince at the sloppy kiss. She was just... a little drunk. And he figured she would not appreciate the displeasure for the kiss.

"Katara," he said with a sigh. He delicately cupped her face and kissed her gently. "You're beautiful. Why would you think I don't find you--" Aang stumbled over the word 'sexy.' "--beautiful? I mean, my body's actions should let you know how much I want you most of the time." He made sure to keep his eyes on hers the whole time, blushing slightly.

She saw the blush creep up his face and smiled. She hiccuped.

"Then why haven't you slept with me?" she demanded, louder than she anticipated.

Aang sputtered. His hands dropped to his sides, and he just stood there for a moment, bewildered. "Do we have to talk about this now?" he finally managed to ask. "You're drunk, Katara. I'd much prefer discussing this when you're sober."

He frowned; that was a little more formal than he'd been planning. Bringing a hand to his forehead, he added, "It's not that I don't find you attractive--that's such a ridiculous idea. It's just I...." And he stopped. So many things, bundled together to make his reason. Would she even understand right now?

...probably not. Aang sighed.

"I'm not drunk," Katara said defensively, slurring a little. She leaned against the island again and grabbed his hands.

"Then why haven't we? Why has Toph had sex before me? I have been throwing myself at you for the last year and you never tell me what's wrong. I want to help you get past whatever you need to get past, but you never tell me what it is."

Aang stared at their hands for a moment, then let out a defeated sigh. Why couldn't she do this some other time? He didn't want to keep Azula waiting, either.

Before he replied, he fell back and sat on the kitchen floor. He felt tiny, then, but he didn't care. Too many things were rushing through his head, and he just wanted to try and sort it all out.

"I've hinted at some of the problems, Katara," he whispered. "But you only seem to think about yourself." With a chuckle, he continued, "I don't think I'm ready for more responsibilies. I have so much to do, so many things still to accomplish. I don't know if I'm ready for another big step yet."

She dropped his hands and stared at Aang. Her heart sank, and defeated she fell back. She suddenly felt very cold and realized she was no longer hungry. With shaking hands, she closed her wrap and carefully tied the belt.

"I'm sorry I asked," she said quietly as tears flowed freely down her face once again.

She turned on her heel to go.
