Character Information

General
Canon Source: Anastasia
Canon Format: Movie (1997)
Character's Name: Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova (Anya)
Character's Age: Eighteen

What form will your character's NV take? Voila! Without the people inside.

Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Anastasia possesses no superhuman abilities.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? Dormant Ability: I’d like her to have the power to both repress memories and bring out suppressed memories of others through touch. It will also only work when she wills it to take effect. At first, the memories will only come back or be repressed for several hours, but as she learns how to use the power better, that time will extend longer and longer until she's able to permanently repress or bring forth latent memories. Of course, since this could have a large effect on the characterization of others in the game, I'll be sure to check before she uses her power on anybody, intentionally or accidentally. Because of these specifications, it will likely take her a while to discover this as her power. However, I think it makes sense for the character, given that a good amount of her character is based around the fact that she doesn't have memories of her childhood.

Weapons: None!

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: Here you are!
Point in Canon: Right after leaving the orphanage.

Anya has just left the orphanage where she spent a majority of her life after losing her memories. Her caretaker tells her she found her a job at a fish factory. Unsure of whether to take the job or try to make her way to Paris, she sits down on the road and asks for a sign. Out of nowhere, a small dog rushes up to her and begins to pull on her scarf, heading in the opposite direction of the fish factory. Taking this as a sign, she takes the dog and decides to try to go to Paris.

Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: N/A

Character Personality: The first thing that’s important to note about Anastasia’s character is her drive to find her family and home. This is her driving motivation throughout the film. Having no memories, she grew up in an orphanage, most likely dreaming of the family she somehow left behind the entire time, with only her locket to give her a clue as to who she might be. As important as her search for family is her search for her own identity, and she believes that finding her family will fulfill this need as well. Her main focus in the movie is this journey for fulfillment - to the past, as it were. It's obvious that she feels more strongly about this than anything else in her life - even after she had fallen in love with Dimitri, she still nearly chose her grandmother over him, before realizing she could have both.

However, despite her uncertainty about who she really is, ‘Anya’ is still an incredibly strong, independent woman. She’s very spirited, doesn’t tolerate nonsense, and has a tendency to get sarcastic and scolding towards people she isn’t fond of. She can even be cynical at times. Likewise, she has no problems taking control of a situation when the need arises, and she’s both intelligent and confident. In addition to being intelligent, she's naturally inquisitive and curious about many things - her past, for one, and the world at large. Even beyond this, she can hold her own even in situations that require more than intelligence, showing courage and resilience in the face of crisis. However, she isn’t above self doubt or fear, as shown when she tells Vlad she sees ‘a skinny little nobody with no past and no future’ when she sees herself in the water, and when she cries in Dimitri's arms after the nightmare sequence. Even so, kind words can quickly snap her out of thoughts such as that, and it doesn't take much to make her believe in herself once more.

In addition to her focus on family and her strength, she’s optimistic and idealistic. Despite growing up in an orphanage with only one clue as to her identity, she continued to believe that her family was alive and waiting for her. The fact that she lived in an orphanage also leads me to believe that she led a very sheltered life, and interacted with other children in the orphanage for the most part. Life in the castle, though she doesn't remember it at the canon point I'm taking her from, was likely also very sheltered. Furthermore, she’s easily led into believing she could be a princess, despite the fact that she knew it was unlikely. This shows how she can be naive and easily trusting. She’s also very excitable at times, such as when she finds out they’ll be going to a ballet in Paris. She's also very impulsive; instead of going to the factory where her caretaker got her a job, she followed a dog down the opposite road, taking it as a sign from up above. This hints at her belief in the spiritual, as well.

For the majority of the movie, the harshest we see of her is a sarcastic and scolding side; however, at the end of the film, her drive for revenge shows itself. She's able to kill Rasputin with no regrets, armed with the knowledge that he killed most of her family and robbed her of a normal childhood. So, when faced with people who are unquestionably evil, she doesn't show mercy. However, she can change her mind about people she isn't fond of at first. A prime example of this would be Dimitri, who she falls in love with by the end of the film. Even with Dimitri, however, she's extremely angry when she finds out he lied to her. Both of these situations show how she has an extremely negative reaction to being wronged.

Conditional: Personality development in previous game: N/A

Writing Samples

First Person Sample [When the feed starts, the voice is angry, and seems to be arguing with a Greeter. A barking dog can also be heard.]

--telling me I should talk to people through a music box? Really? Do you honestly expect me to - fine, fine!

[There’s a lengthy pause, where the sounds of hurried stomping can be heard, along with a continuation of that barking.]

You know, when I asked for a sign, this really isn’t what I had in mind. “Use this to look for someone you know.” Well, sure, that would be fantastic if I actually knew who I was looking for! [She pauses after a noise of anger.]

How am I supposed to get to Paris from here? I don’t even know where Siren’s Port is supposed to be!

[There’s a sigh, and a thud as she sits down, frustrated. Then, the sound of barking gets louder, and the sound of rustling fabric joins it.]

Hey, Pooka, no! Pooka, stop that! Pooka!

Third Person Sample Between being told she had somehow landed in a different world, that she had to be inside before dark, and that there was no way to leave, Anya was not in the best of moods by the time she reached the Starter Apartments.

“Canada, huh? You know, I wanted to get out of Russia, but I didn’t think I’d end up outside of Europe! And I don’t suppose anyone has spare money for a train ticket or anything like that.” She said as she sat sullenly down on the bed, crossing her arms and sighing angrily.

She couldn’t recall the last time she was so frustrated; as such, it took her a while to really notice her surroundings. When she did, it was with surprise and curiosity. She’d never been in a building quite like this, and before she realized it, she’s walking around the space. She trailed her fingertips over the walls as she took in the room, distracted from her anger for the moment.

However, after a few minutes, she realized exactly how ridiculous. She straightened up and sighed heavily. “I come to a new dimension and the first thing I do is stare at a few walls. Of course.” She sat down heavily on the floor, and stared up at the ceiling, forlorn. “Where am I even supposed to go from here?”
