Reminder for Shipping and Some proposed Rules

Aug 02, 2007 16:34

No, I have not dropped off the face of the earth.  I wanted to let up on the community posts for a bit, and allow DH to sink in a bit more to everyone's consciousness.  I also am battling vertigo at the moment, and feel like crap.  But enough about me.

First of all, this is a reminder to go and visiting this thread on " shipping debates" before I post the official vote on August 8.

After the voting is completed (I figure having a week in which to vote). Once these are chosen, I will be posting a finalized timeline, and key scenes for the story.

The moderators and other have been talking about the best way to go about writing a comprehensive story, and not just a series of disconnected fics.  We propose that instead of volunteering for a single scene, we have authors volunteer for specific characters.  I will be posting a thread in a few days to start taking application for characters.

To be considered to be the "lead" writer for a character, you need to show that you will stick around, are willing to work with others, and have written something within the HP fandom in the past, or are willing to submit a sample fic to the moderators.  You must also be willing to write the ships that are decided on by the community at large (and I pray that's not too weird....canon people, canon).  Overall, I think this will be more a gen story than a shipping story, so that shouldn't be too difficult.

If you want to participate, but are daunted by the task of writing a character all the way through, or are a complete novice at writing but really interested, you can become part of a group surrounding a particular character or scene and work with the lead author about your ideas and perhaps help beta in that area.  Scenes involving multiple major character may be dominated by one particular characters point of view, but the leads for the other major characters involved should be consulted about any major plot points occurring in the scene.  All disputes will be moderated by the moderators (heck, that's our title, darnit).

I welcome any comments about this proposal, please make your opinions known.  I don't want to chase anyone off, but I also want to have us try and come up with a really great story.  Writing by committee is not easy, as can be seen by the number of crappy TV shows, but sometimes it can be a beautiful thing.
