Sunday Scribbling #3

Author's Note: I've decided to just press ahead with the prompts for a given day. At some point I'll go back and catch up on all the ones I've missed.

"Now, where do we go from this point?" Doctor Ling said, tapping the expression on the board with his chalk. Students stared at their papers, some in amazement, some in confusion, other in abject horror.

Finally a brave soul raised her hand. "Um, use Ramamunji's Method to solve it?" she volunteered timidly.

"Why Ramamunji?"

"It's the same general form?" she said, more question that a statement. A murmur went through the class, as students tried to decide whether or not she had the right idea.

Doctor Ling nodded approvingly. "Good catch." He wrote Ramamuni's form next to the expression. "Now using Ramamunji, we get this." With a flourish he wrote down the final expression. "And we have proved our theorem."

He turned back to the class. "Math is difficult, but it is not impossible. It requires a bit of cleverness and occasionally stepping back from the details to see the broader picture. These expressions and theorems and proofs are not something to be terrified of. And yes, I can see the looks of terror on some of your faces." A low chuckle went around the room.

"But math is your friend." he continued. "Lets us do wonderful stuff like accounting and exploring the universe and figuring out who drank more last night. Do not let it scare you."
