Fanboy Griping, Begin!

So, I finally got a chance to sit down and watch the season premier of Human Target. Frankly, I was left a little underwhelmed.

Here's the thing, the season finale left up with a great set-up. Winston's kidnapped, there's a mysterious book on the loose, and Chance's old boss finally found him to work out some sort of tedious alliance. So you're left thinking that the episode to resolve all that is going to be freakin' sweet, but the season premiere wraps it up in 5 minutes. Are you kidding me? There's a whole story that hasn't been told! Where's Chance's old boss? What happened to him? How'd they find Winston? I know the show relies on cryptic background information and plenty of Noodle Incidents, but that's just frustrating.

And another thing. It's probably a minor quibble, but what happened to Bear McCreary's ass-kicking orchestral music of awesome? This show is a basically a 90s action movie homage and they've got something more akin to an early 2000s superhero score. I liked the old credits. I'm invoking my fanboy right to be petty until they come back.

Now, let people think I hate the show now, I don't. I like the overall plot. It was believable...well, for this show anyway. I even like the new characters. Our new thief shows promise to play well with others and our rich benefactor makes for a good minor recurring character. It just feels like this episode should have been second in the season, after the story of Winston's rescue had been properly told.
