next steps

May 26, 2005 00:15

ok, two more chapters basically done. here's the brainstorm of what i need to do, next/soon:

-go through the quotes i've used and make sure they are correct (esp for sharon and sarah)--listen and fix
-revise methods:
-data collection: needs LOTS of revision, can't look like a series of accidents
-data analysis: cut out thematic analysis, write MORE about discourse analysis and discursive psychology
-check if there's any other changes to be made
-literature:
-skim relevant-sounding chapters in books about parental beliefs
-look up the names i sense as central to this lit, and find the more influential articles they've written.
-go get those articles, skim them
-draft notes on what is salient, important and relevant in the lit that i skim
-theory chapter itself:
-jot down the MAIN IDEAS that i want to highlight, pop out, from my analysis chapters, particularly bringing together the two first with the Irvine family chapter
-using my notes from the lit, make connections, write lots of ideas, freewrite!, make outlines!
-write an 'abstract' for the theory chapter (or an outline, if that is easier, but it should contain the main points i want to hit)
-intro:
-start compiling the main issues/events i want to include in my historical background piece.
-start writing up my historical background piece

mini-deadlines:
-by saturday: send theory chapter abstract to karen
-by sunday: revise methods & fix quotes in two analysis chapters
-by june 5th (next sun): write up theory chapter
-by june 8th (wed): write up historical background
-by june 9th (thurs): write up rest of intro
-by june 12th (sun): write up conclusion/implications

so by june 12th i will have written at least one draft of EVERYTHING.
several drafts of the analysis chapters.
two drafts of methods.
one draft of theory/intro/conclusions.
then the next week is about revisions, starting with chair comments and then moving on to reading everything and making sure it is all aligned.

tomorrow what to do:
-read over parental belief systems chapters, look up salient authors, get their articles
-before meeting with lorraine at 4, work for a little while on IMPLICATIONS for SW, since that is her pet issue and i feel like i need to be able to talk about that better with her since she asks about it every week and i always stumble around with it.
