Liberal politicians Valeria Novodvorskaya and Konstantin Borovoi reply a question how Russia can get rid of her imperial mentality. In the opinion of Novodvorskaya, Russia is too big, her imperial past is too deep-rooted, and there is no external force (like the Allied forced in post-war Germany) in order to compel Russians to abandon their imperial mentality. The process will be long and painful. A solution to this problem, according to Novodvorskaya, will be a confederation of Russian states, united by language and culture, but without a common centre.
