I hesitate to even write about this here, but I figure as long as I steer clear of mentioning it on facebook, it's okay.
My brother fell while racing today. It's something we worry about each time he races, and since he races every weekend (usually in three separate events,) it was bound to happen. He's ok, although he pulled himself out of his afternoon race in order to repair his bike. No major damages, thankfully. His bike is our secondary concern, obviously, but it's a big one.
My mom is visibly anxious every weekend until after she hears from my brother, because so many crashes take place at these races. Even with helmets, cycling at this level is not without risk.
I'm thinking, stastically speaking, now that it's happened his chances of crashing again are fairly slim, yes? I hope so.
