There are so many fantastic episode of The X-Files that are my favorites that it would be a travesty to pick just one. The show overall is brilliant, and there are memorable episodes for me as there is for any show, but to narrow it down to one, single episode isn't something easy or something I'd like to do. I fell in love with the show, not just with one episode. BUT, I will point out some of my favorites. "Redux II" (5x03) is one of my favorites because it is the culmination of so many story lines from the previous four seasons, and it's done so in such a beautiful manner. I mean, we open up with Scully in the hospital, dying from her cancer and Mulder's a total wreck. It's like these characters have finally come to that point where they can't take anymore, and through each other and their work and purpose they discovered that extra bit of strength to keep going. It's a beautiful episode and those final scenes where it goes back and forth between Scully praying and Mulder in the FBI office are some of my favorites of the series.
Another episode I absolutely love and recommend to everyone is the pilot. The pilot introduces you to the characters through a great case that signifies the battle Mulder and Scully are fighting and continue to fight throughout the series. It also introduces Mulder's quest to find his abducted sister, Samantha. And finally, it introduces you to the new working relationship between Mulder and Scully. We begin with them their journey.
Finally, I just want to throw out some episode titles in hopes that everyone will check them out. "Squeeze," "Tooms," "Ice," "Pusher," "War of the Coprophages," "Anasazi," "The Blessing Way," "Paper Clip," "Biogenesis," "The Sixth Extinction," and "The Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati." These to me are some of the best. :)
