Heroism is: Active Shooter Protocol. Law enforcement are to respond to a shooting spree in progress by going straight in to neutralize the shooter, ignoring even victims to stop the carnage as quickly as possible. It saves lives, and asks a heck of a lot of the police.

The woman who brought down the Ft.Hood shooter followed this protocol, she's in hospital, and a hero.
