I generally tend to ignore 90% of the bulletins that are posted on Myspace these days, as 95% of what I see posted by people who aren't bands are either surveys, chain mail, or comment requests written by bored 16 year olds teenagers (after all, what adult would ask in a survey if you would go to prom with them?).
One, however, not only managed to cull a response besides "Wow, whoever wrote this must be bored," but it actually managed to cull a semi-intelligent response from me, as it is hands down the most blindingly ignorant thing I have ever seen on this site.
My comments are in italics.
You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction.
You call me "Whiteboy," "Cracker," "Honkey," "Whitey," "Caveman" and that's OK.
But when I call you, nigger, Towelhead, Sand-nigger, Camel Jockey, Beaner,Gook, or Chink you call me a racist.
To a degree this is true, but also worth noting is that this is also a double-standard that has been, to a degree, accepted by some of society. It certainly isn't the only one either.
You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you, so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?
Simple. Since funding for social services in impoverished areas has been more or less reduced to nothing on almost every level (particularly during the Reagan Administration), combined with the rise in drug trafficking and gang activity over the past forty years, and is it really all that surprising that the ghetto is so violent? If you have virtually no money, no applicable jobs skills, and you live and have to support yourself in the Dallas metropolitan area, where can you go besides the streets if you aren't pushing or getting support from a gang?
You have the United Negro College Fund.
You have Martin Luther King Day.
You have Black History Month.
You have Cesar Chavez Day.
You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi
You have the NAACP.
You have BET.
If we had WET(White Entertainment Television) we'd be racists.
If we had a White Pride Day you would call us racists.
If we had white history month, we'd be racists.
Martin Luther King, Jr. was, besides an advocate for civil rights, someone who crusaded against injustice within our society; something that also occured during the American Revolution. To simply say Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a "black holiday" is a severe disservice to his legacy.
Considering that we once sold black people as property in America until almost one hundred years after the birth of the country, and didn't grant rights to them until one hundred years after the Civil War, why the hell should I take pride in that?
Supposing we did have a White History Month, what would we do to celebrate? Ride through the ghetto on floats going "Hey, my ancestors bought and sold your ancestors, and then made them sit at the back of the bus! Haha"? Why don't we also, to have a white equivalent to the "black holiday" Martin Luther King, Jr Day, have a Strom Thurmond Day as well? After all, he certainly fought for the advancement of white people.
If we had an organization for only whites to "advance" our lives, we'd be racists.
The NAACP was formed in response to the glaring lack of civil rights in the US at the turn of the 20th Century, and spent much of time fighting for the overturning of Jim Crow laws (which legalized descrimination) and fighting for civil rights.
And despite being an "organization for [blacks] to advance in [their] lives", wouldn't you say it is quite peculiar by your logic that WB DuBois was the only African American on the executive board, and that the organization did not have a black president until 1975?
If you want an organization for the advancement of white people, join the Ku Klux Klan.
If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships, you know we'd be racists.
There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US, yet if there were "White colleges" that would be a racist college.
Affirmative action and black colleges were established in the 1960s because, at the time, the chances of a minority gaining entry to an establishment of higher learning are about as good as me getting up and walking across Lake Grapevine in the middle of July. And if it is racist for HISTORICALLY black colleges to exist, then why does Howard University (one of said colleges) admit white students onto campus and has a student body that is 15% white? That's a lot of honkeys at a black college, don't you think?
Following the logic of this bulletin post, since only black people live in the ghetto, they shouldn't be granted race-specific scholarships to go to college because that would be racist.
In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.
What rights would we be marching for, the right to party? As far back as the 1780s, the white man has had all of the rights that were being marched for in the Million Man March.
If you still feel the need to march, I'm fairly certain the KKK is having one somewhere in the near future.
You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.
Again, why should we be proud? Would you like me to walk through the Korean district in Dallas going "Back in the 1940's, my people through anyone of Asian descent into labor internment camps in the California desert without probable cause for several years" as an example of showing pride in my race?
You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist.
So basically you're saying that all burglaries, carjackings, and homicides are committed by minorities, and that all gang members and drug-dealers are black as well?
Are you also not familiar with the Rodney King trials?
I am proud.
But, you call me a racist.
If you genuinely believe in every word posted in this bulletin, then yes, I would call you racist.
Why is it that only whites can be racists? There is nothing improper about this post.
I will admit that that is a very good question, as the double standard regarding racism in America. However, the logic this point is made with the intent of the bulletin is beyond improper, and downright ignorant and insensitive (fundamental characteristics of racism no less).
Let's see which of you are proud enough to repost it.
I would say there is nothing for us to be proud of.
