Let me see, what's my phone number again...

Urgh, for someone not too unfamiliar with the English language, I sure hate talking on the phone in English, especially after several years of not having to do that...

I had to call RyanAir thanks to the mess of my friend's flights (had one reservation cancelled, but not refunded, had another reservation made, ended up with two seats for her on the return flight etc.) and sheesh, how awkward can one be? First of all, it's nearly impossible to fluently remember you phone number in English, when you're used to rattling it down in Finnish (it becomes almost an abstract litany, which has very little to do with separate numbers, which makes it very difficult to both translate and remember the correct number at the same time) and then, over a somewhat jumbled line, to get all the letters of the various confirmation numbers correct (umm, T for, umm, tiger? - my brain just didn't come up with the official "tango" at once). I hate to be so uncomfortable over the phone.

Anyway, after much checking and rechecking, I think I now have the matter cleared, heh. I have a reservation number for my flight back from Stansted to Tampere, a reservation number for my friend's return on the same flight plus a confirmation number for the cancelled flight, in case there are any problems with the refund. I hope everything is now ok. At least my outgoing flight is fine (with no complications), had to check that at the same time.

I'm so glad I'm going to an English speaking country again, it's been too long since I used the spoken language for a longer period of time. I hate to be awkward when communicating and I want at least some of my fluency back!

I just wonder how will anyone who has even less experience of talking on the phone in English ever get the hang of RyanAir's customer service? (When they finally, after about 50 calls, answer the phone...)

Huh, how much easier it would've been if my friend hadn't changed her plans twice in the middle of the process of making flight reservations... :) Anyway, if anything goes wrong after this, it'll mostly be falling on her, because my flights are all ok and paid for already. But at least we'll be facing the problems in Stansted on our way back to Finland. Shouldn't be too impossible to get home somehow. ;)
