I've been listening to really good music lately. I asked for recommendations for stuff I perhaps had not listened to before and got some tips. As a result, I've been going to the music library more often these past two months than ever before. A couple of musicians (a bass player and a guitarist, in fact) who seem to share a very similar taste in music have been of great help.
Here are some picks from the soundtrack of my recent life:
Dave Matthews Band (several albums - love it!)
Genesis (mostly the old 70's & 80's stuff, starting from when Phil Collins got involved)
Sting (almost anything I've been able to get my hands on - well, duh)
Iron Maiden (several albums, like Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, Fear of the Dark, Live after Death and Final Frontier - hahaaa, as I got the tickets for the gig, this is a no-brainer; am still missing Seventh Son of the ones I was told to listen to first)
Spock's Beard (a few albums, still missing the one's I was actually recommended to listen)
Porcupine Tree (as with Spock's Beard, missing several recommended ones)
Blind Guardian (so far only The Forgotten Tales, which was really weird fun, but the ones I was told to get, I haven't yet)
Dream Theater (started with Images and Words, moving onto Octavarium and so on)
Dio (so far only Holy Diver)
Symphony X (V, which makes me want to find out more)
Transatlantic (for example Bridge Across Forever - they're still in the pile and need to be listened to)
And yes, I hadn't listened to most of these ever before, I hate to admit it. Mistake's now being fixed with much enjoyment and pleasure - and I can now (hopefully) stand taller in the presence of my musically more advanced friends.
Tonight, however, it's back to live music and RRS on stage. Yay rooooock!
