Went on a Social Club fishing trip yesterday, twelve people, three boats, lots of fun. Well, most of the time anyways. I know I suffer from seasickness, so I made sure I wore my acupressure bands. To be doubley sure, someone gave me one of their prescription drugs for seasickness. Full of confidence, speeding along in the boat to the fishing location, joy. However that was all to change once we anchored. There was a lovely relentless swell. After my initial panic attack (that I always get at the prospect of being sick) I felt better and was able to get some fishing done. Every now and then though I had to get someone to hold my rod so I could shout Huey at the sea. Sigh.

I managed to hold out for three hours of this (during which time I caught 5 fish, only was was proper size though), then it all got too much and I had to get them to drop off on a beach otherwise I was going swimming. Desperate to get off the boat, I left all my gear on board, including sandfly repellant, arse. So I lounged around on the rocky beach getting eaten alive. One of the other boats came close to shore, I expected them to be dropping by to take the mick, but no, they were swinging by to drop off one of their crew. There was another one in a bad way on the third boat too, but she was managing to sleep through it.

Although I was sick of a dog for a fair proportion of the trip, it was a great day out. In total we were out at sea for 6 hours. After that we all went back to my house to fillet and cook up what we'd caught. For someone who doesn't really like fish, it was absolutely gorgeous. It was also quite nice having three flash boats parked outside my house.

Seasickness is just awful, it would have been far worse if they weren't able to drop me at a beach. I reckon I could manage a fishing trip on the flat calm of the Marlborough Sounds, but I don't think I'd be able to handle back out on the sea again.

Back at work today and there was a lot of jokes, but only to be expected really. The worst bit though is the persistant itch from the many many many sandfly bites.
