NCIS Vocab

Isn't it funny how the tables turn? When I first bought NCIS on DVD, I watched it constantly my mother would look at me funny. Now she never stops watching it!
Anyhow, so while she was watching today, she asked me a question. Under Covers was the episode at the end Gibbs says Semper Fi as has been said by numerous character through the series. She asked me what Semper Fi actually means, to my own surprise I didn't know the answer. So I typed "Semper Fi wiki" into my Firefox address bar. Apparently, Semper Fi is short for Semper Fidelis, which is Latin for Always Faithful. The US Marine Corps is one of many organisations to adopt the phrase. It was 1883 when they chose this as their new motto. The prior three mottos of the Marine Corps were "Fortitudine" (meaning "with courage") antedating the War of 1812, which was a nod to the British Royal Marines, "Per Mare, Per Terram" ("by sea, by land") and, up until 1843, there was also the motto "To the Shores of Tripoli". "Semper fidelis" signifies the dedication and loyalty that individual Marines are expected to have for "Corps and Country", even after leaving service. The Marines frequently shorten the motto to "Semper Fi."

End of Latin Lesson.

On that note, I also finally thought up a shipping name for NCIS, the character names are incredibly hard to combine. Annoyingly the only ship I have been able to think up a name for is Tony/Ziva, which is my least favourite ship of all! Davozzo. And to celebrate this achievement, I shall be using my Tony/Gibbs icon. Hooray!

shipping, semper fi, latin, ncis, tony/ziva
