Yup, hopefully it won't be overturned. But from the sounds of the judge and the couple, they plan to keep fighting it up to the supreme court if they have to.
Leaving gay marriage up to the states always seems like a giant cop-out by the federal government because they're afraid of what people will think or some crap like that. I heard (by word of mouth and I have nothing to back it up) that Clinton actually hindered the process of allowing gays to marry (not that any politician as helped so far, here in the US).
Do you have any links about Target? And which group it is that they're supporting? That's completely horrible. D: I know a lot of people who shop there (myself no longer included) because it's sometimes cheaper than Wal-Mart but the same people would definitely stop shopping there once they learned about it.
I think a big problem that we haven't made much process since the 70s is that a lot of straight people (the ones that aren't straightforwardly homophobic) don't realize how very little progress that's been made. A lot of them don't realize how much things can suck/be dangerous for LGBTQ people and just assume that the only thing wrong (if that) with the US is that we don't allow gay marriage everywhere.
