Whoa~~~

You're My Worst Nightmare

I'm Doing Alright

Toshiya chewed nervously on the inside of his lip. Thoughts of regret kept racing back and forth, like the zooming cars on either side of him. Surely Kaoru would be alright by himself. Even if he thought like a twenty year old Kaoru, he was still technically an adult. As long as he didn't do anything rash like contacting Yoshiki-who was all the way in California-or parading around with makeup on and a dress...

The bassist gulped down an anxious breath, flitting his vision from the blurs of cars to the more concrete buildings.

Stupid fucking morning

Not even noon yet and the day was already proving atrocious. Kaoru couldn't wait to call Die. The small mobile did not look like Kaoru's, actually, if he remembered correctly, his was a lot larger and bulkier, and what was this circle thing on the outside: it looked like a camera lens; were they making phones with cameras now? When did this happen?

With an intrigued mindset, Kaoru studied the device, pressing buttons, and fiddling with settings. He located the web browser and tinkered with that for awhile, visiting sites from My Favorites. It didn't occur to him who's it belonged to; it was in his hands now and he'd fiddle with it until the real owner showed up-probably Toshiya. Most of the bookmarked sites consisted of hard rock bands, distasteful clothing stores, and...Myspace? A profile popped up with the user picture as a spiked skull and bone wings. The username was 'Bachikankyuun.' On the profile's friendlist, a ton of hardcore American looking guys knew this person personally: most of them were in English. Was this Toshiya's?

Kaoru shook his head, glad this wasn't his phone; he'd never have such freaky friends, or enjoy such tasteless sites to waste time on.

After awhile-and tired of cruising through Toshiya's stuff-the shaggy brunette opened up Contacts and searched for Die's name. He discovered a ton of people he knew on 'Toshiya's phone' that the bassist clearly had no relation to. It rattled his brain trying to figure out how the immature male knew them. He also saw some unrecognizable names such as a Kanto-san and a Sekina-san. Oh, and did Toshiya have a girlfriend? A Noriko-san was currently on speedial.

At last Die's name highlighted and Kaoru pressed the 'Send' button.

"Yeah, Kaoru?"

Kaoru scrunched his eyebrows. "How'd you know it was me?"

"Caller ID, duh. So, what's up." Die sounded cheery for a non morning person.

"Uh...yeah, sure." Kaoru ignored the unexpected greeting. "Listen, Die, we've been in the same bands for a few years now... You know Toshiya?"

On the other end Die made a face, scratching his head. "Yeah? What about Toshiya?"

"He's acting weird and saying some crazy shit. I don't wanna talk about it right now but I sure could use a buddy to mull this over with."

"Well ok. I think I can squeeze you into my busy schedule. Get your butt over here in thirty, after I shower and shit."

"Alright. Oh hey..." Kaoru paused. He didn't want to admit anything until he saw Die and confirmed Toshiya's nonsensical yammerings, but he had to be sure of this one thing-otherwise, he'd be driving in circles. "Your place is the same one, right? You haven't moved out within the last couple years?"

"Kaoru wha-? No, of course not. I've had this pad for ages. Man, this Toshiya thing has got you totally whacked out. You better get here pronto." Die pried himself off the bed and wandered toward the towel closet as he finished his conversation with Kaoru, tossing the phone on the mattress. No sooner did the device bounce on the sheets, it began vibrating and playing Toshiya's ringtone. The younger guitarist trekked back to it. "Speak of the devil. Kaoru just called me."

"He what? Die, what did you say to him? What'd he tell you?" Toshiya sounded practically frantic. Die couldn't imagine what had happened between them. He'd find out soon enough from one of them. "Calm down. He didn't say anything, just you talking random shit like you always do. He's coming over."

"Are you sure?" The light haired bassist didn't sound confident like his normal self. Listening to Die, it appeared he didn't yet know of Kaoru's...condition. But if their leader got there before Toshiya did, something bad could happen-well nothing drastic, but something big enough that could further shake or even unbalance Kaoru. This was a sensitive situation and who knew what could happen if the wrong things were said.

"Die, don't say anything to Kaoru about what's recently happened. In fact, don't say anything at all. I'll be over as soon as I can." Toshiya really didn't want to see Kaoru again, he'd just said goodbye five minutes before. However, not even Kyo knew what Toshiya considered. He wanted to slowly introduce the amnesia aspect, guide Kaoru back into 2007. Hopefully Kaoru would be alright.

The car parked in the garage was not a car, it was a black behemoth on wheels. This tank towered over Kaoru and potentially could engulf him if he were on the wrong side of it on the road; with this monstrosity, he was King of the road.

The five foot seven guitarist strolled around the H1 Hummer, sliding his fingers against the shining obsidian paint and loving the squeaking sound of gloss against flesh. But then he came to the other side of it and frowned; in yellow italic-in English-the words 'Japanese Zombie Heroez' sprawled across both front and back doors.

"Not this again," he groaned. What the hell kind of...of car was this? It couldn't possibly fit on the scrunched roads-could barely fit on Tokyo main roads; the beast would pummel anything in its path.

Kaoru stepped away, glowering resentfully at the commercialized Humvee. Whoever it was spent a lot of effort to take Kaoru's moped and replace it with this ridiculous monolith. How was he going to reach Die's apartment in that thing? Better yet.... How was he going to reach Die's apartment at all? Kaoru didn't even know where he was at the current moment. This expansive place was nowhere near Kaoru's neighborhood, nor Die's. Was it even in the same prefecture?

Back outside, and away from that stupid car, Kaoru flipped open 'Toshiya's phone' and summoned Die again. The duel haired guitarist didn't pick up; his answering machine was all Kaoru got.

Damn!

Kyo parked in front of Die's flat and left Toshiya there; he had other plans before the meeting he could not cancel. No sign of Kaoru's car, he hadn't gotten there yet.

Once Die let Toshiya inside, he demanded answers.

"What's Kaoru going about saying you're talking crazy shit? And why are you so panicked?"

They sat in the den-both with cups of coffee-Toshiya with more caffeine than he took during a normal morning; today qualified for a very stressful one, and could not be handled without extra assistance.

"Kaoru's..." He couldn't say it. It wasn't true. Kaoru was not out of his mind. The less he spoke of it, the less he thought of it, the less likely it'd be an actual threat to them and their relationship; yes it was selfish, and not considering Kaoru's reaction to this was horrible, but Toshiya didn't see much choice.

"Totchi, just spill it. What's going on." Die tried to be patient with the lack of knowledge. He tapped Toshiya's knuckles with a teaspoon, blinking curiously once he got the other's gaze. "Are you two having problems?" Die knew about their relationship so that was an easy guess to what bothered his bandmates; had he seen all of Toshiya's stuff in Kyo's car, that would have been a definite guess.

With light stands of hair swishing to his movement, Toshiya nodded his head from side to side like Die had no idea. "It's more complicated than you think."

"Try me."

A smile encouraged the bassist to continue, "...Kaoru's gone on a mental vacation," he finished after a weighted sigh. He couldn't bring himself to repeat what he feared. The best he could do was skirt around the subject with the basic and insufficiently detailed without giving reason. "He's incapable of handling the band, or anything right now."

Die wouldn't mess around, he'd get his answers. "And why di-"

Die's cellular buzzing to their leader's ringtone interrupted their discussion. The half redhead seized it from his back pocket. "What's going on, Kaoru?" His tone was stern.

"Diiie!" Toshiya hissed at him.

On the other end, Kaoru's deep voice resounded from the earpiece, "someone took my moped. I can't get to your place, I'm taking a train but it'll be awhile."

"Wait, Kaoru, you don't need to take the train. I can easily get y-"

"How? You don't have a car."

Die's graphite eyes expanded wider than they had in years. "I don't have a--- Kaoru. What the fuck are you on?" His irises shrunk as he met Toshiya's, a gradual-but still very vague-understanding enveloping around him. "I clearly have a red jeep sitting in my garage this very second."

Kaoru couldn't help but crack up. He had to slap his knee and throw his head back at that one. "Jeep? A Jeep? You!? No way!"

"A Grand Cherokee thank you very much. Now knock it off."

Toshiya cut in, though not smugly, more like disappointingly, "I told you he was a little off the deep end." He was given a bewildered stare and an open mouth. Die covered the mouthpiece to respond outrageously. "A little!? He's gone bonkers!" He made Toshiya drop his head and hide his face. "He's gone bonkers!" Die was right. With evidence like that, Kaoru was out of his mind. It didn't matter how many times he said he had a complicated nature: Kaoru had lost it.

"Alright then," the scruffy brunette started, unconvinced, "why don't you come pick me up with your Red Grand Jeep Cherokee."

"Oh you're on. And you'd better give me one damn good explanation for this."

"Chh. Same to you, buddy." Kaoru hung up, a bit peeved- so Die was in on it too, huh? Shinya couldn't possibly be, he was the smart and sensible one. He wouldn't stoop this low for measly entertainment. And since Kaoru didn't want to see Die now, not after his horrible lie, it might be a good idea to call the drummer up. Yet...

He couldn't bring up the nerve to fish out the 'borrowed' phone. There was that slight chance Shinya wouldn't help him, wouldn't stick by his side. And he didn't have any other choices-Kyo was missing in action and replaced with some old creep, Toshiya started this whole thing, and brought Die into it. Kaoru's only option was to wheedle their stupid lies out until they quit.

Whatever his bandmates dished out, Dir en grey's leader could take it; Kaoru would be alright.
