he said that i have a concussion and post-concussive syndrome. i should be fine, but i have to be especially careful about protecting my noggin from any more injuries. the doctor is (strongly) urging me to

And, pardon my skepticism, but what can the police do besides give him a little slap on the wrist, tell him not to do it anymore, and let him off the hook? Unless he's done more violence to you that you didn't post?

doc says if he's done it once, he's done it before and will do it again. his violence towards me has been mostly verbal.
he pry won't get into trouble unless i press charges, but it will be on record that he assaulted me.

if he did it to me, what about his girlfriend or baby?

I wasn't saying it was a bad idea. I just have very little faith in the justice system in general. I'd neuter him and then turn him in though. *le sigh* In a perfect world...

i wanted to neuter him in the first place (instead of the rolled-up newspaper smacking), but he was sitting, so it would have been too hard to get at his testicles.
he loves his baby, it seems. but he might screw her up if he keeps his attitude the same at home as at school.
