Civil War Emotions

Nov 27, 2015 18:40

So my Thanksgiving was lovely, went up to my uncle's cabin in Big Bear, where it was bracingly cold and there was some snow, and all around it was good family times. Whatever, I'm really here to talk about CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR because aaaahhhhh that trailer. Sorry if you follow my tumblr, which all of a sudden became all wailing about CACW all the time.

  • Okay, so with all the news that had been coming out about Civil War and how literally everyone in the MCU but Thor and Bruce were in it, I had adjusted my expectations....significantly lower than they had been. Because I am Not Here for Avengers 2.5 or Iron Man 4. But oh, how could I have ever doubted you, Russo Brothers and Marcus and McFeely ;_______;
  • I know that it must have been partly to preserve suspense/surprise re the movie's actual plot, but I'm so pleased that the trailer was basically all emotional narrative/plot and character stuff. Personally speaking, trailers that are all stuff blowing up and big set pieces interest me not at all. All the Age of Ultron trailers left me unenthused.
  • I'm tentatively interested in where the MCU is going with the Civil War arc now. I have some faith that they've adapted it to...make sense, basically. At least, I hope so.
  • Applaud my restraint that I waited three whole bullet points to bust out with this: BUCKY. BUUUUUCCCKKKKYYYYYY. MY EMOTIONS. Thrilled Sebastian Stan has what's probably more than two lines of dialogue in this movie! Also very impressed and wildly intrigued by the basically thirty seconds of his performance we see in the trailer! Because I definitely thought, "That's Bucky. That's not just the Winter Soldier, and that's not a blank slate, and that's not a guy who's totally okay, but that's Bucky."
  • Ahahahaha all the Steve/Bucky in that trailer, kill me now, this pairing is endless agony and heartbreak and perfection.
  • I love Tony a lot, so I'm not super looking forward to him as an antagonist :( I mean, in the context of a Cap movie, I am all about Steve, but I really do genuinely love Tony and I loved the Iron Man movies, so this is gonna hurt :(
  • Not because of some grand Steve/Tony friendship though, because lol. I actually laughed out loud at Tony's "So was I," because [footage not found]. Given that Steve and Tony have been totally absent from each other's solo movies, and that the first Avengers got Steve and Tony to the point of being cordial allies at best, I'd have needed a hell of a lot more from Age of Ultron to sell any Steve/Tony relationship beyond "friendly coworkers." That said, I do think it's in character for Tony to think he and Steve are friends, and for Steve to...not really think the same. Because when Steve, wary and private and closed off and having such a difficult time making connections in the future, thinks of the word "friend," he thinks Bucky. And Bucky was clearly an uncommonly devoted friend. So I can see Tony thinking "we're teammates, you come to my parties, we haven't come to blows lately, so we're friends, right?" while Steve is thinking "I barely know you, and my idea of friendship is the guy who stuck with tiny, sickly Steve Rogers for twenty years, or the guy who trusted me and has helped with looking for said friend."
  • Steve calling Bucky Buck gave me a lot of feelings ;__; It's such a little thing, to have Steve call him a nickname of a nickname. But somehow, it speaks of so much intimacy and affection.
  • I am so here for how the entirety of this movie appears to be Steve doing totally insane things to keep Bucky safe.
  • I harbor hopes that while all the promo material is Steve vs Tony, that the meat of the Civil War conflict will be Steve vs. Natasha. Because if Natasha isn't going to be on Steve's side, then damn straight I want a ton of focus on the Steve/Natasha relationship. But maybe she's the mole!
  • Sam's new wings look very nice. I hope very much for a lot of Steve/Sam/Bucky action hero'ing.
  • RHODEY WILL BE FINE I REFUSE ANY OTHER ALTERNATIVES
  • T'Challa! I am excited and intrigued. I wonder what his beef with Bucky is.
