Viking 2-1, a VDSC

Petter's Notebook
Ever since THAT night, I've felt really sick - nauseous, achy, and weird all over. What happened to me up there, in that ship in the sky? I have a really hard time making sense of what I remember - the strange voices, the darkness, the cold sharp pokes... I never saw anything, like I had a bag over my head (but I didn't) or everything was done in complete darkness. But how ... ?

And then suddenly, unceremoniously, I landed in front of the house again. Everyone around me went on doing things like nothing had happened. Herod and Piper wrote weird teenager secrets in their notebooks, dogs visited and wanted to be played with

and Mom wore pajamas. I just wish I knew why normal feels so different now.

I called Prudence today. She asked me how I was feeling, guess it's obvious I'm not feeling well? She said she'd come over to cheer me up. One thing led to another, and we kissed!

I'm making headway with some other neighbors too -- a dog I call Tiff stopped by again this evening and seemed really happy to play. She never stays for long though, unlike Scout.

Speaking of, she hasn't grown much more, but she sure is a character!! She's always making big messes and getting herself dirty, but when anyone else tries to give her a bath she just causes more trouble. It usually ends up with a lot of puddles and someone hollering for me. I love her so much.

Unbelieveable day. Prudence was over and she and I were having a great time together and then I my stomach my body popped. POPPED. Forward, like something grew inside me. IS THIS WHAT THEY DID TO ME? Did they put something inside of me? That's growing?

She acted like nothing had happened, but I wouldn't be sprprised if she never came back.

And to add to that? Mom is gone. She was on the roof tending the garden or lying around in the sun or something...and then she just died.

Just like that.

Lots has happened. Firstly, Prudence came back!! Actually, it's like she never leaves! We have this big drum in the hallway and she plays it for hours. Dad thinks we shouldn't let her stay so late, that we should ask her to leave. But I can't. She's just so happy and so beautiful playing that drum. I kind of hope she never leaves.

Secondly, Lisbet decided to move in to an old warehouse next to the post office. She's going to take Yulian, Piper, and Herod with her. She didn't say it, but with Mom gone and this thing growing inside of me she just wants to get out of this house. I don't blame her. No, I do.

But done is done. She took some of the furniture with her. Not like the warehouse was furnished ... and Dad and I aren't going to need all of it.

The rest I just got rid of. Out. Gone. I don't want it anymore.

Reaching Enlightenment:
your sims will sell all earthly possessions (aspiration/career rewards can go into an inventory for the week) and replace them with only the bare necessities. Every person in the household will get one crappy bed to sleep in and one crappy place to sit. No tv, but arts and books are allowed. You are allowed one bathroom only. Your designated buddha-sim will spend 6 hours per day meditating for one week.

It was a baby! I mean, it IS a baby. Somehow, a baby grew inside of me.

And today it was born. I named him Hedgehog, after the funny little cacti that grow around the house.

The other kids were at school, but Lisbet was at the house. I was relieved to see her smile when I introduced her to little Hedgehog.

After she left, I sat outside, breathing in the hot desert air.

I've read that meditating is supposed to be relaxing and enlightening, I could really use some of that!

__________________

Hedgehog is a good baby. Dad spends lots of time rocking and cuddling him.

I'm not very good at this Dad thing, so it's good that Hedghog has both of us.

And I'm still trying the meditating thing.

But it's not working yet.

__________________

I found a wee puppy out in the desert the other night! I brought her home and named her Poppy. I figure it'll give Scout something good to do -- each of us can have something little to look out for.

And I think the meditating is starting to pay off.

Or maybe I'm just feeling more relaxed because Hedgehog grew up -- he's healthy! He's safe!! I'm not doing it all wrong!

Dad says he looks nothing like me....I think he's right. His eyes, his nose, his hair, it's all so completely different!!! Where did this little boy come from??

__________________

Someone "important" drove up to the house last night and gave me this big lecture on taking care of dogs. Like I don't know anything!

And then drove off with my Scout and Poppy! THE NERVE!

If they hadn't been in a car I would have chased them. If I knew who it was I'd go find them. But they were and I don't!! I stormed around the yard for a long time and then fell asleep outside.

When I woke up, Dad was reading Hedgehog a story, right outside under the desert stars. It was all so strangely appropriate.

And I realized how glad I am to have him, even if I don't understand it.

__________________

I'm so lucky to have Prudence around. I've told her all about Hedgehog, but she hasn't met him yet. I feel like she needs to be "prepared," because he's so ... different. Last time we had this conversation she told me that she used to work in a hospital in a big city, so she's seen all sorts of strange and unusual.

I asked her about that - if she worked at a hospital in a big city, what was she doing here? Hiking through the desert with her friends was her answer. She seems to like it well enough, but I don't want to risk losing her. I asked her to marry me.

She said yes!

We exchanged rings and kisses, with Dad as our witness.

And then I introduced her to Hedgehog. She hasn't stopped smiling all afternoon. Actually, neither have I!

Still meditating.

But now I have company.

(And I think Prudence and Hedgehog are going to be just fine together.)

__________________

Dad found Hedgehog a little drum his own size, and we put it in the hall next to the big drum. He found it last night and thought it was so funny to bang on! I joined him and couldn't help but laugh too. He keeps us all on our toes, but Dad helps out a lot and gives Prudence and I time to ourselves.

At first it was sort of strange (great! but a little strange!) to have Prudence around all the time, but I think we're all feeling more comfortable together.

Which is a very good thing, because she's pregnant!

__________________

I think all that meditating is helping me keep my cool. I mean, I've got a strange little toddler, my new wife is pregnant, and we had a fire on the patio tonight! Dad and Prudence completely freaked out, but I stayed calm and put it out! Weird.

Prudence does a lot for Hedgehog while I'm meditating. I'm wondering if maybe I should cut back on my meditation time and do more for her and Hedgehog.

Our baby will be here soon and she's been so tired. I wonder if I can keep this relaxed attitude with less meditation?

We decided we needed one more room in the house with the new baby coming. Or at least we thought so - we figured Dad would want a place of his own to sleep, away from crying babies and such.

But apparently he acted really weird about it when Prudence brought it up.

Either way, I started putting up the walls to a new room on the roof, next to the gardens. I'm not meditating as much now - there's a lot of painting and building that needs to be done. I hope Dad will help.

I was able to find some toys and part of a bunkbed down at the dump. Thank goodness!! The new baby will need the crib soon, and Hedgehog has outgrown it! He needs his own place to sleep. And I found some scraps of outerspace wallpaper too, not enough to do his whole bedroom, but I think it looks really good!

The DIY Challenge:
no NPC's are allowed on the lot for one week. Fire the butler, the maid, the gardener and the nanny. Not that the nanny does much, anyway...* Power down any Servos on the lot for the week.

[--HMM!! I have no npcs hired, so I decided to add:: (1) no NPCs include delivery people, no ordering grocceries or pizza!! (2) as we shop/find and remodel from previous challenge, all has to be done yourself!! limit to painting 1 stretch of wall (or a small room) per day, 10 found items brought to the house, and minimal amounts of wall/window/door remodeling. Roll for all items and paint.]

Prudence had the baby!! I totally sympathized with her pain (ouch!) and I was right by her side when he was born. We named him Aloe.

I may have been a little overenthusiastic with the remodeling this afternoon. Prudence was really happy about the computer I found (though it has a tendency to spark and break), but not so happy that I knocked out two whole walls.

This new baby has given me all sorts of new energy!

__________________

Prudence wasn't the only one unhappy about the walls, Dad was grumbling about it too. If we can just finish these projects then Dad will see how great it is to have the bigger space!!

He had one of his friends over for dinner - we talked about paint (we still need some for the little baby room, and I'd love to try a new color in the rest of this house) and windows - Prudence is really excited by windows. Dad acted like his friend had access to stuff like this, but he didn't seem very eager to help.

I guess I'll just keep doing it myself.

__________________

Prudence was really excited about the paint she found today. It's ridiculously bright, but I think that's why she likes it. Hedgehog helped her paint part of the livingroom today. But me? I spent most of the afternoon trying to get this old piano across the desert and into the house. Oh yay.

(But it was worth it.)

__________________

For a little while we weren't sure, but we thought Prudence was pregnant.

And then Prudence felt the baby kick inside her -- suspicions confirmed!! Can't say I was completely surprised. I mean, all the painting and treasure hunting was making us extra horny.

Dad and Hedgehog painted the entryway today. Prudence still loves that awful bright paint.

And Hedgehog still loves music, I saw him swaying and dancing while Dad played the piano last night. I wonder what little Aloe will like as he grows up...and this new baby too? Is it a boy or a girl?

__________________

Aloe has the longest hair I've ever seen on a child so small!! I need to find something to cut it with, he'll overheat in the hot desert sun with hair that long! I can already tell though, he's got Dad's nose.

Prudence came to the dump with me today, and convinced me to bring home this strange looking box. She called it a Pinball Machine. Once we got it home and cleaned off, she pushed the little buttons and danced around with a goofy grin on her face. I love that grin.

Which reminds me!! Dad asked me to paint a picture of Mom. He asked me if I remembered that grin she used to get whenever we talked about or ate grilled cheese. How could I forget? So I'm working on that painting every evening, after we're done working on the house for the day.

Even without Dad's friends' help, the remodel is going well. We're finished with the living room now, it's kind of eclectic because we didn't have enough of any one color to do the whole room, and the furniture doesn't match at all, but Prudence and Hedgehog are so proud of it that I've come to like it as well.

And I found a music player again - Prudence had some CDs in her bags from when she went hiking, and we played them today. It was awesome.

The only other new thing today is that Aloe had his first hair cut. I shaved a lot off the back, it should help him stay nice and cool.

__________________

Dad's gone.

Prudence and I did what we could to comfort little Hedgehog and Aloe.

But he's gone. And so much left that I'll never understand now.

__________________

After Mom died I had all this time to meditate, all this time to myself to think. But now, after Dad died, the only think time I get is when I'm waiting for Aloe to poop. It's sort of ridiculous, actually.

Things haven't slowed down one bit. In fact, there's even a new baby around the house!! We named her Marigold. She looks a lot like Aloe, but she's got the biggest eyes!

With another little one around, and walls still left to be painted, Hedgehog has really helped out a lot. He's a lot like Lisbet, actually, eagerly playing with his little brother so Prudence and I can get other things done.

Once the painting is done for the day and the little Vikings are in bed, we have our own fun. Hedgehog did it first, but we've all realized how much fun it is to dance around while the other plays the piano. Clearly he was on to something!

We put some of the final details on the house today.

Prudence wanted to invite some people over this afternoon, to help us paint the last room and to show off the rest of our house.

They were actually really enthusiastic -- where does Prudence find these people? All the people Dad asked refused to help us!

Prudence is so good to me. To all of us. She loves Hedgehog like he's her own, she plays with him, reads him stories, cheers for his somersaults and handstands...in fact he even calls her mama. We've been together a long time now, but I still keep asking her, "Where did this crazy beautiful girl come from?!" She laughs, every time. But then she looks sad too, she must miss it - that big city she came from. She's never told me much but she has photos in the bedroom, it looks beautiful. If I can ever figure out how to get out of this desert, I'll take her back.

In the meantime, these little babies we have together keep growing! Marigold's a toddler - a toddler with very little hair!

In fact they've ALL grown...like I just blinked and suddenly they weren't babies anymore. They're not the only ones growing older either, I found a grey hair last night and my throat is feeling strange...
