***

The land was green and brown and grey,
For miles ahead a road lay -
For miles ahead that challenged sight
In the bewitching Northern Night.

Along the road with troubled pace
Cars ran to reach their hiding place,
While drivers reached their hiding home
And left the Night alone to roam.

What of it? I was standing there!
My eyes were wise, my feet were bare,
The road wasn’t mine to take -
I stayed there for the Night,
                                        awake.
