Africa
So I had a good little conversation about it. I don't have the full thing, but I wanted to put up a few points.
Oprah just paid for a school that will really help a lot of girls. Why hasn't anyone done this before? Education is the first way to help any society. Its very important. It will give 150 girls a year one of the best educations in the world, and that will definately change the social environment down there in a good way.
But why haven't any liberals ever did anything like this? They always talk about socialistic ideas, but they never spend their own money. Has Bono built any schools? No, he just has poor people waste all of their money to help other poor, as he flies around in private jets.
Same with many of those loud mouths. Its annoying. If they truly cared, they would dump money into the infrastructure and repair these societies where they need it.
To fix Africa, there really needs to be 20 or so other schools like that. At least 10 for boys and 10 for girls, 2 colleges for both, and at least one med school. It would be best if there were two or three medical schools. Why? As I explained, even if the med students go to other countries, they will have to do their clinic duty in Africa, which means free hospital care for the area. Also, there will be doctors brought in to teach the students. If the doctors graduate and go to other countries, they will be feeding their money back to their families or taking their families out of Africa.
With schools there would be professionals in the area, libraries and intellectuals who see the society around them and would want to improve it. It would improve the areas around them, especially if they aren't built in any cities.
Another thing that Africa needs are large aqueducts, to carry water into dry areas when the seasons change. Not to terraform, but to beat down on pestillence and to make it easier for travel and care. More rails would help a lot also. Of course there would need to be animal preserves, and to protect people from animals, but you can do that with relative ease.
