College Football - Top Ten + Clemson

Nov 15, 2006 10:44

Week 12, fools. 4-6-1 against elreydetortugas. This week, I'll close the gap even more.

11/15 Games
1. #8 West Virginia (-11.0) at Pittsburgh
The Big East has definitely been the most interesting conference this year. Who knew they'd have more drama than a teen show on the CW? I think the Mountaineers will win out, Rutgers included. WVU by like three touchdowns over the Panthers.

11/17 Games
2. #21 Maryland at #20 Boston College (-7.0)
Both of these teams are still alive for a trip to Jacksonville, and I gotta like BC in this one. Maryland is a wacky team, but the Eagles are pretty solid. Jesuits win by a field goal.

Game: Correct
Spread: Incorrect

3. NC State (-4.5) at UNC
I'll take NC State with the points in this one. UNC is not a good team, and only played GT close because the Jackets don't have anything else to play for until the Georgia game. Neither team can reach bowl eligibility this year, and the two public schools are dwarfed by Wake Forest this year, and UNC only has one more win than Duke. Awesome. I can't wait for the Duke-UNC game!

Spread: Incorrect

4. Miami (-3.0) at Virginia
Miami needs this win to become bowl eligible, because their last one is against BC, and UVa needs to win the next two, which isn't going to happen. Virginia's only shot is to play spoiler for the Canes, which I don't think will happen since the Hoos are coming off of a 33-0 shut out at FSU, who turned around and got shut out 30-0 by Wake in Doak. Hurricanes win by a touchdown and a half.

5. #22 Tennessee (-8.0) at Vanderbilt
Even after losing to LSU, I still like the Vols as one of the four or so strongest teams in the SEC. Vandy, as much pluck as they have, won't be able to put together two in a row against UT. It would be awesome to see, but they've had a lot of emotional games already, and I don't think they have enough in the tank to pull this one out. Volunteers play Rocky Top in Nashville, but they don't win the spread.

The Iron Bowl
6. #15 Auburn (-3.0) at Alabama
Alabama has had a miserable season so far and is only a 3 point underdog? Rivalry games like this one are hard to predict. Auburn is coming off an embarrassing defeat to the Georgia Bulldogs, and the Tide win will give them a 7-6 season. Alabama has never won in Tuscaloosa, which is weird. I don't think this Bama squad has the horses to change that trend. Tigers by seven.

7. #19 Virginia Tech (-1.5) at #14 Wake Forest
A Wake Forest win will clinch a spot in Jacksonville with a Maryland loss. VT is playing for a shot at the Peach. This is the best season in Demon Deacon history. I think they ride the momentum and surprising fan support to a very tough and very close win over the Hokies. Deacs/Jackets in the ACCCG.

Spread: Incorrect

8. Utah (-1.5) at Air Force
I picked this game because I needed at 10th one and this had the thinnest spread. I'll take the Falcons because they have a weird offense and Utah doesn't have Urban Meyer anymore.

Game: Incorrect
Spread: Incorrect

9. #17 California at #4 USC (-6.0)
California got beat by Arizona last week because they were looking ahead to this week. The only chance they have is if USC gets all arrogant and smug (I mean more than usual) and takes the Bears lightly. The winner of this game essentially gets a BCS bid. I hope Cal wins it, but I don't think they will. USC wins the game and the spread, and keeps their BCS title hopes alive.

Spread: Correct

10. #2 Arrogant Midwesterners at #1 Obnoxious Midwesterners (-6.5)
People have been talking about how great Michigan's front seven are, but they have played 3 teams with a winning record. Ohio State clearly looks like the best team in the country, and they have played only 4 teams with a winning record, but one of them was Texas. The rest of the Big 10 is kind of a joke, so it's a little hard to tell how good these teams really are, unless you're an ESPN analyst, in which case these might be the best two teams ever so that their ratings will go up. I think Ohio State wins. Big. By like two and a half touchdowns. I have been saying that UM is overrated for a long time. OSU shows them how badly, unless, of course, OSU is overrated, too, in which case we won't really know unil January. But OSU wins, and plays the winner of the SECCG in the desert.

I beat Spencer again by one game - I'm 5-6-1!
