Miscellaneous ramblings.
Where I work we have to pick all of our vacation time at the beginning of the year. When I got down to my last week, I didn't have any plans but there was still time available in the summer so I took it. I'm off this week and have absolutely nothing planned.
This past weekend, Becki and I went to Versailles, Illinois for her little brother's wedding. It was a total redneck wedding. The groom was wearing camo hunting gear and carried his bow & arrows. The groomsmen were also decked out in camo but a couple of them had to cancel at the last minute. I got to be a replacement groomsman! :-) I was the lone spot of color amongst a line of bald white guys.
I had my 2nd enjoyable drink of Scotch there. My brother-in-law Scott bought a bottle of Grant's blended that was just super smooth with a nice smoky after taste. I've never been a Scotch drinker but I was one on Saturday. Due to the Scotch and lack of sleep, Becki had to drive us the 2 hours back to her mom's from the wedding. I'm glad I didn't drink enough to get a hang over...
We are going through the pain-in-the-butt trouble of changing our insurance providers. We've been with Allstate/Lincoln Benefit Life forever and always believed them that they had among the lowest rates around. Then they raised my rates this spring. Not a little raise either. I've had no claims since the hailstorm two years ago yet my rates jumped about 20%. I called to see why this was and they claimed that it was an across the board rate hike for all customers. I told them I was going to shop around and that they may want to see if they could keep my coverage the same while lowering my rates.
I even waited for them to do this since I've been with them for so long.
I contacted an independent agent also. Contrary to what I always thought, it turns out to be cheaper for me to have my insurance providers split up. I am going to save about 40% on my auto/home/umbrella and about 20% on life by using three different providers through my independent agent. All I got from Allstate was a "sorry to see you go" e-mail...
My car it totally ghetto'd out right now. I've got two cracks in my windshield and a busted side mirror. Since I'm off this week I can get the windshield done but I keep forgetting to order my side mirror. It's currently held together with electrical tape (my car is black) and a replacement glass is glued where the old one was. Soon as I get off here I'm gonna order that mirror.
Any local peeps wanna get together this week? I'm pretty much available anytime. I don't go back to work until Monday at 3:00pm.
