I'm really looking forward to this weekend. We don't have any big plans. I'm just looking to enjoy time away from work :)
Tomorrow morning I'm taking my nephew to my sister's house to mow her lawn. She recently had knee replacement surgery and is in almost constant, horrid pain. She said she'd rather go through child birth again. She's one hell of a strong woman so it's almost distressing to see her cry in pain from simply adjusting her weight in her chair. Our family has a pretty strong stubborn streak so I'm not surprised that she's not backing down in her rehab one bit...
This is my second oldest of three sisters. OK, so she's only the second born by 20 minutes. Her twin was born first. Ya know, it's really cool to watch them relate. Roxy - the "older" one - has always been Rachel's protector. Rachel was born without fully developed ears. Ever since they were able to walk Rox has fought for Rae. We all know that kids can be terribly cruel. Imagine what Rae had to deal with going to school with her hearing disability. There were a lot of words she'd mispronounce due to it and that was often the cause of her torment. Unless Rox was around. She ALWAYS stuck up for Rae, often getting into fights.
Now that Rae is unable to do many things for herself while she's recovering, she's staying with Rox. I think all twins share a special bond. In their case I think it's stronger than most. When Rae had surgery to have a cochlear implant put in, I think Rox was maybe even happier than Rae to have almost normal hearing for the first time in her life.
Speaking of the cochlear implant, it's had a great impact on Rae. Us siblings are a family of music lovers. We can sit and talk about, compare, contrast, and expound on the virtues of almost any artist. It doesn't matter if it's Johnny Cash, Mahalia Jackson, Dream Theater, The Funk Brothers, The Blues Brothers or The Brothers Johnson . Is Stanley Clark really a better bassist than John Myung? How cool would it have been to see Roy Clark and Al DiMeola share a stage? How under rated was Ringo? These are all conversations we've had after dinner or over drinks. Now that Rae's hearing has been improved so much it's neat to hear how different things sound to her. She picks up a lot more intricate and subtle sounds. She also recently learned what a piercing, screeching voice sounds like and how annoying it can be. A couple of weeks ago she got to see the Trucks Tedeschi Band. Now keep in mind that she's seen hundreds of live shows. Hell, it may be in the thousands. I couldn't possibly remember all of the bands she's seen. I think this was a whole new experience for her. She is hearing things in a whole new way.
Wow, I just realized how late it is. I'm usually fast asleep by now. I guess I'll get off this thing and go to bed. See ya!
