Decisions, decisions ...

Tonight I'm headed down to my parents' to have a look at a pair of cars.

An astonishingly cheap '03, 2 litre MG ZS which has barely ever been driven.

Or an apparently gorgeous, very much reduced, XJR that was apparently once owned by Jeff Banks and has had a very nice custom finish to it.

I'm looking forward to a bit of a spin around ...

DO NOT buy a Rover! The ZS is a Rover 45 in yoof clothes, and conveys the message of a middle aged dad wearing a baseball cap sideways and listening to rap. And that's before you consider the poor engineering quality and of course, it's that Rover 2.0 engine, of which I have blown two and Rich P has blown one in indentical ways, watching the spindle sail clean off the end of the camshaft with a sound not dissimilar to the Excelsior pointedly failing to go to transwarp in Star Trek III.

the XJR will eat your soul for breakfast.

I am a middle aged dad, you know ...

I had a feeling it was that engine. I did know it was a 45, but I seem to recall you enjoying yours when the engine wasn't trying to escape. How many miles had you chaps done before it blew up? This one only has 30,000 on the clock.

(I was not so patiently expecting you to suggest I'd be mad not to buy the XJR. I suspect that may be my feelings later this evening ...)

Oh, buy the XJR, it is a prince among cars. I feel slightly surreal even comparing it to an MG-ZS. It's like comparing a well-upholstered green leather chesterfield sofa to a canvas camp stool with a broken arm ( ... )

Hmm, I misplaced a comment somewhere. I could have sworn I already posted that I can't possibly have heard correctly when I heard XJR. Even at mates rates, the price I was quoted is roughly a third of what I should be expecting to pay ...

Still, I expect I'll choose the Jag in the end.
