Individuality is an interesting thing, but the saddest thing about it is how many people get the concept mixed-up. There are people who mistake it for elitism. They think that only they and those like them are the true free-thinkers and individuals so anyone who isn't is inferior/a parasite who are the enemy that should be barely tolerated at best or utterly crushed to the ground at worst. Deep down they are not individuals because they are still adhering to a ridged ideal that one mistake and they're outcasts.
The other problem are those that mistake individuality for egotism and selfishness. Hence, they are the only ones that matter and other people only matter when it benefits them. You can see this in the attitude of a lot of the people on Wall Street who put profits over people to the point of letting their own country suffer or those jerks who read too much Rand and have this total "me, me, me!!!!" mentality. They get one part right with their own self-worth, but forget that everyone is an individual who should be recognized as such.
Sorry this just a rambling, but I had to get it off my chest.
