35 Days of BL- Day TWO (Favorite Mangaka)
Here again for my second entry for the *drum roll* 35 Days of BL *cheers* Whoo hoo! ^___^
Day two is your favorite mangaka. I think that they are trying to seperate the losers from the winners with these first two, because I nearly died in trying to come up with a decision!!! How could I possibly CHOOSE just one! There are SOOO manga mangaka that I just adore and several for different reasons. For example if I'm in the mood for cute, typical yaoi boys, I go find me something by Minami Haruka. If I need something dark and sexy, it's Dr. Ten. If I feel a certain oyaji-craving, Naono Bohra's my gal! You see! How can I choose?!
Eventually..it came down to Sadahiro Mika and Kodaka Kazuma. Their style is so distinctly different and both of their works have stayed with me long after I've read them. But at the end of the day....KODAKA KAZUMA is the one the makes my heart flutter! ^___^
So it's decided! My favorite mangaka is Kodaka Kazuma! There are others I like just as much, but I'm hoping to be able to rant about 'em on later days of the meme.
Now, why Kodaka-sensei? One title-- KIZUNA (Bonds of Love)! I long ago fell in love with the anime and then the manga when it was finally completed by the amazing scan-group kizuna_project !!! Love you guys! Ranmaru and Enjouji's love story is one that is unforgettable. They are not your typical couple and have an equal relationship, which makes their fights very very amusing! :) Each one has a strong personality that clicks with the other. And of course their chemistry is OFF THE CHARTS! Kodaka-sensei's sex scenes are sensual and love just oozes off of every pages, while at the same time not being too explicit. Even Kai and Masa's relationship is just as intense and steamy. They are nearly as interesting as the main couple, and you get enough of their relationship throughout the series that you don't start suffering from withdrawal as seems to happen with shorter BL series. Basically, Kizuna is one of those rare BL titles that has it all! Interesting plot, interesting & realistic characters, nice chemistry between characters, smutty sex scenes, sweet 'awww' moments, and humor. The artwork while I find beautiful and fitting may not be to everyone's taste.
Okay, I gave a LONG rant about Kizuna, but Kodaka-sensei wouldn't have made my fave mangaka if I didn't love her other works. Kizuna just happens to be my fave. I also really enjoyed Kusatta Kyounshi no Houteishiki, which is also a longer series (10 volumes). It's a cute story about a HS students chasing after the school nurse! It's so funny. This one is read more for the entertaining storyline, than the smut scenes, because there are virtually none. I think maybe at the very end, they finally have sex..maybe..I don't quite remember! lol
What I love about Kodaka-sensei is that unlike most other mangakas whose works are all the same. She writes so many different types. If you want a light hearted, funny story set in HS, then 'Kusatta' is for you. Want a detective story? How about 'Mezase Hero' or 'Border? Want something dark with hot sex scenes (possibly non-con)? Then check out 'Hana to Ryuu' or 'Midare Somenishi'. In the mood for just plain SMUT? Go get 'Sex Therapist', it's a guaranteed nose-bleed! There's something for everyone with Koda-sensei *affectionate*.
