Let's see.
January 6th
Flight from Panama City, Florida... 2 hours late
3 hour layover in atlanta
Atlanta to Laguardia... on the tarmac for an hour.
I get to laguardia and find out it's only a local airline so I've got to get a cab to JFK... luckily... Delta Airlines paid for the cab.
Get to JFK, spend 3 hours in lines trying to check in and find out where I dump my damn bags (because they don't collect them at the check-in counter now.
spend an hour drinking at a bar with some Irish guy... cool beans
Get on my flight, we go up, get to boston, turn around because of engine failure and land back in JFK.
Wait 2 hours for them to fix the damn plane.
Re-Board the plane, go back up... get HALFWAY to Boston and the same engine fails... again..... RIGHT AFTER IT WAS FIXED.....
We turn around and land again... I'm officially going to be late for checking back in at my unit and if I can't get ahold of them I'll be considered AWOL.
I spend the night at a buddies house who lives in Brooklyn...
Call Delta in the morning (because they couldn't figure out how to fit 200 people on later flights) The earliest they can get me or any of my 3 buddies is Monday....
I spend all day trying to contact my unit... red cross is busy, then they don't answer, the USO is closed, Staff Duty is busy, or they don't answer, I lost my drunk card so I don't have anyone's phone number in germany so I'm sol...
I decided to get on a computer that costs me $0.20 a minute and write and e-mail to my room mate in Germany, and two of my friends, my parents, and my parents neighbor.... telling EVERYONE OF THEM to call/e-mail/fax my unit with the information that I'm NOT getting home on time.... now I wait...
When I get to germany I see if my unit's long-standing tradition of starting paperwork for AWOL status IMMEDIATLY within 12 hours of a no-show....
Wish me luck
Lotsa love
