Name-calling

Just a small thought...

I hate name-calling.

I'm sure you're thinking 'well of course, everyone does! name-calling is so mean! I only do it for mean pplz'.

No. I hate name-calling no matter what. Even when it's between friends or meant in a 'nice' way. I don't understand why calling people names ESPECIALLY among friends seems to be alright. It's just a cruel way our society desensitizes us to being empathetic beings.

Especially when terms come in to use for meanings. Like why don't people just say 'stupid' when that's what they mean? Or if you mean 'homie' or 'friend' why don't you just say that. After all it's not like our goal in life is to create a huge vocab in the slang department (and if it is... I highly doubt you go beyond trying to find terms that aren't what I'm talking about because after all the excuse I just mentioned is a common defense mechanism when someone is faced with being in the WRONG).

Because I am weak and not a brave person often, I usually do not speak up when I hear terms in daily life. So I would like to urge you here to please not use hurtful terms in your daily language... or at least become aware of when you use them and what you really mean. Because even if you're not using it in a hurtful term, often it's not your term to use and you're helping society to create an atmosphere where people that are truly a part of that term to be ignored.

Terms that I wish were not used in every day life and hurt me a lot when people say them...

"Nigger" "Fag" "Dyke" "Retard" "Lame"

Those are the only ones I'll list for now, because I'm not really that sensitive of a person and can take a lot, but whenever I hear these words especially from friends, I feel like crying.

Using these words is aiding in the oppression of the groups affected by the terms.
