This Day in Yankees History:
1903 - Lou Gehrig, one of the greatest of all Yankees, is born.
1941 - Joe DiMaggio goes 3-for-3, including a home run, against the White Sox, notching up his 32nd consecutive game with a hit.
1955 - Mickey Mantle hits his 100th MLB career home run as the Yankees take a pair of games from the White Sox, 7-1 and 5-2.
1961 - Roger Maris hits a 9th inning home run off Kansas City A's pitcher Jim Archer - his 25th of the season - putting him seven games ahead of Babe Ruth's 60th home run pace in 1927.
2000 - After a few starts where he had the Yankees at his mercy, Red Sox SP Brian Rose finds himself figured out - to such an extent that the Yankees more than beat up on him, they hammer him 22-1 in front of a hushed Fenway Park.
2002 - The Yankees overcome a seven run 4th inning by the Rockies to win 20-10.
2005 - The three-game series against the Cubs - the first one between the two teams since the Cubs were swept in the '38 World Series - ends with the Yankees once again taking out their brooms. Alex Rodriguez crowns a four-run 4th inning adding to the 6-2 final score.
